Bill Maher’s documentary on religion…

I am so excited for “Religulous” that I keep watching every trailer. I know it won’t be available here because we have some hate-mongers that are ever-so-willing to infringe on other people’s freedom of speech and thought. But, I heard from people who have seen it that it is fabulous. Here’s the trailer. If anyone knows whether it hit the Hawally rounds tell me.

Madonna’s brother blames Kabbalah for divorce…

1

Apparently, Christopher Ciccone is still on Madonna’s case even when Madonna just ejected his biggest problem from her life. From what I remember from the book, which i read in its entirety in one day, that he is a Kabbalist himself.

He tells German newspaper Bild, “The Kabbalah sect, to which Madonna is completely devoted, played a large role in this marriage. It was based on it. And that is not enough on which to base a marriage. It couldn’t have survived.

I don’t agree. I think Madonna is to much of an institution to be in a marriage. I mean, once you marry Madonna you marry modernity itself, no human being can fathom what’s it like even if they are famous and/or rich themselves.

I can’t wait until the kiss and make up. Madonna and Christopher, that is.

Girls Aloud sparkle…

A lot of people think that this lead single is a departure from their ruckus pop, but I feel like it is an inevitable leap of maturity and I quite like like it. I am sure they have bursts of bubblegum pop on the album, it’s just they can’t keep on doing that forever, especially with a band that was estimated never to have such a longevity by many critics.

Book: Letter To A Christian Nation (2006)

Sam Harris takes on the far (and near) right in his plight against organized religion and his firm belief that secularism is absolutely crucial for the furtherment of civilization, which science and reason can only propagate.

His sentiment is directed to the US, but it does not shy away from world examples and implicit historical referencing. His short letter of a book does not only shed light on the abandonment of reason, but also the complete disregard for scientific advancements throughout human history, which stand as his beacon examples of rational thinking and proof for his athiesm – a term he renders as irrelevant taking a more rationalist approach.

McCain’s Anti-Arab comment…

5

I recently heard about this incident:

“Mr. Powell also told reporters on Sunday that he was troubled that a number of Americans believe that Mr. Obama is a Muslim, although he did not directly link that supposition to the McCain campaign. At a recent town-hall style meeting, Mr. McCain told an audience member who said she thought that Mr. Obama was an “Arab,” ‘no, ma’am, he’s a decent family man.’”

I have to say I am not surprised. One of his greatest supporters is John Hagee, who is anti-arab and also an anti-catholic homophobe. This is the kind of mentality that most republicans have and that is the driving power behind their parts. I mean he didn’t have to say it, just his refutation for the woman’s comments shows what he really thinks of arabs. And, I guess since Arabs are a small minority in the voting arena, who care?

Beyonce becomes Sasha Fierce

5

Beyonce has announcement the name of her album and it is so horrible that Ashlee Simpson would think it’s genius. The long awaited title is I Am…. At first I thought it was such a waste. I take album titles seriously and I think some albums set the mood. But, after a little reading up I found out that it is a two disc set.

Iran to stop killing children…

3

Iran has finally reached the decision to stop the execution of minors according to a wikinews article. I remember these pictures when they came out and how gut-wrenching they were. I just hope they stick to this ban and follow up on Amnesty International’s demands. I can’t imagine how the minors relatives felt at the time of the lynching and how this new decision would no benefit them. You can’t go retroactive on murder.

Colin Powell endorses Obama…

1

Well, I didn’t expect that one. He crossed party lines a couple of weeks before the election. I would have thought he would just stay quiet. I can’t help but think that he did it to secure a post on an Obama-led administration. I mean, he did try to persuade Bush not to start a war and he left when he realized that the current administration is probably the worst that the US has seen. I don’t think it really matters now especially since everyone pretty much made their decision.
