Kuwait climbs freedom of speech index…

2006

Finally, some good news. But, I have to do more research to see if it actually climbed up because it got better or because other countries have dropped down. And a note to the rest of the bloggers: being #1 in the Arab world is not really a feat.

Kuwaiti policewomen face difficulties…

1

According to this article, some beardist MP has decided to unleash a tirade of hate on women who want to serve the country as policewomen. The same women who have waited to take that post for years on end, but haven’t been able because of male-supremacist oppression of some figureheads. He opted for them to abide my Islamic law, disregarding the Constitution. I don’t know what that entails? Should policewomen “lower their gaze” when the catch a criminal? Should policewomen be forced to veil themselves even if they are not in their real lives? Should we assume that everyone in this country is of a certain religious belief?

Tech: iTunes Genius bar does wonders…

I was dubious about trying out the new iTunes 8 feature, because I have tried music recommending programs and they have rarely worked. They were kind of like: If you like Mariah, try Whitney. That was too basic for me and I wanted each track to be separate from the other. This genius bar on iTunes works perfectly and has filled most of he missing holes in my library. It works by tracks and gives great recommendations. It is works by accumulating the databases of its customers to generate accurate results. Try it.

The end of conservatism…

1

In the course of humanity, there has always been a struggle between regression and progression. With the latter being the only way all of humanity can prosper and the former being the scapegoat for the containment of wealth and any other advancements for the groups who have them. That is why they are called “conservatives.” It’s not because they want to conserve the world as it is (they are the ones who deny global warming, continue drilling, they are usually responsible for corporate corruption and safeguarding of unregulated capitalism). The “conserving” part come from their need to protect their assets and the current political atmosphere. This is without regard to how other people might feel.  Continue reading

Bryn Christopher ushers in the cool…

3

I have to say that this is the first time one of the first times that the Grey’s Anatomy people got it before me. But I was hesitant to pick the CD up because I had ordered a similar act’s (David Jordan) album but didn’t really get into. Anyway, watching the video now I am impressed by the song and him. Ease on down the eyes.

Amy Winehouse heads to rehab…

2

She stopped saying no. She is finally going to rehab, again. She looks different every time a picture is published of her. This one is no exception. I just look at all the missed opportunities that she had: working again with Mark Ronson, doing the James Bond theme song, doing a better tour and the list goes on. That’s got to take a toll on her career, especially that now everyone has revisited her genre – Adele, Duffy, Beth Rowley, Vassy. She reigns supreme, though. I hope it works this time.

Girls Aloud get to #1…

I have been ranting and raving about them for a while, I know. But, apparently lots of people think that they are that good. “The Promise” just landed on top of the UK singles charts. It’s their 4th number one and, so far, they haven’t had any of their singles not land in the top 10. They deserve it. Good song.
