I don’t know if I agree with this, but I see the intention behind it. They are trying to make feminism look approachable and not intimidating. I never thought that, historically, it was ever unapproachable. I think people from the other camp made it look like it is.
Like when the conservative groups invented “burning the bras,” when in reality that never occured. Some feminists tried to get a fire license to burn things at a Miss America pageant and they never acquired it. They wanted to burn brain pollution like Barbie dolls and cosmopolitan magazine. Never bras.
Anyway, I have always regarded myself as a feminist before everything and have taken great interest in the topic from a young age and I can safely say that this ad is a little sexist itself. I mean, what was the comment on hairy legs all about. What is wrong with having hairy legs? If someone is scared to meet a feminist because she didn’t Venus her legs off, then I frankly don’t want them to think a feminist is approachable, because they are the problem.
And where are the big old angry dykes? I miss them and I want them to lead feminism just like they started it. I’d pick a mullet dyke with afro-ed armpits any day over the cast of Ugly Betty. I think they should get their facts straight on feminism before they campaign.
Also, it’s great to see Lisa Loeb alive and kicking.
they used Ani difrancos song!!
yes, it’s “Here For Now”
