Must-Watch: Milk (2008)

1

milkposter08 I have been waiting for this movie for a long time. I am very familiar with Harvey Milk’s life and work. When rumors of this movie surfaced, I was both excited and anxious. I was afraid that in the hollywoodization of this film his life would be misrepresented and the issues not given the right treatment. I have to say that the movie does as much justice as can, considering  the fact that it has to squeeze in a person’s life in approximately two hours.

Sean Penn has always been an actor to reckon with and James Franco is just pure eye-candy. The movie goes back in time to depict the early days of the gay civil rights movement post-Stonewall and pre-HIV/AIDS. In a time that was drenched in ignorance and intolerance towards any sexual minority. San Francisco was center stage for the liberal front, where hippies, gays and other social outcasts gathered to fit in. Kid choir does another Tori Amos number…

1

What’s cool about his choir is that they do songs by Tori Amos, not other choir standard like “Stand By You” or whatever teachers are teaching these days. They have done many successfully and did one for Tori that brought her to tears. Anyway, in other Tori new, she has finally signed to Universal Records for her new album, I hope they  handle her better than the previous two record labels.

Video: “Diva” by Beyoncé

Will someone please tell Beyoncé that a diva is definitely not a “female version of a hustler.” Also, what’s up with the car blowing up? Didn’t Mariah do that a couple of weeks ago? I don’t like the song at all, in fact I think its complete balderdash, but, as with every Beyoncé song, the media won’t let you forget it.

Bill Maher visits the Vatican…

I have been dying to see Religulous for months now and I can’t seem to find it here. So, naturally, I binge on YouTube. I am becoming quite a fan of Bill Maher and his show, which I find the clearest eye on politics in mainstream media today. It also happens to be the funniest political show. Yes, even funnier than John Stewart’s.
