What happened to Alana Davis?

Alana Davis is one of those artists that had so much to offer but was mishandled by the record industry.  Her debut album Blame It On Me was a testament of the time. It shine bright as an example of the Lilith Fair era, even though she wasn’t a headliner. Every track on that album was a marvel, even her cover version of Ani DiFranco’s “32 Flavors,” which upset many DiFranco loyalists. Moreover, some people where angered by the rumor that Davis edited some lyrics because of bisexual undertones.

Her second album did not suffer the sophomore slump, but music industry meandering is evident in the radio friendly “I Want You.” This music industry clutter prompted Davis to go independent and start Tigress Records. This lead to her third album, Surrender Dorothy, being released to rave reviews landing her a 3rd place on Time magazine’s albums of the year. The record contracts rushed in, but Davis brushed them off and headed to Jamaica.

Ever since, there has been no news from her or Tigress Records. She might’ve delved into a purple haze or given up on the music business. But, her presence is missed. Hopefully, a new album is in the pipeline.

    Thanks for this news man!
Alana’s official site is off and so is Tigress Records…

We all sure miss her very much, but still we’ve got 3 albums to listen while we wait for some good news in the future.

  2. one of the greatest musicians of all time. in over 30 years of playing and listening to music, i never heard anyone more honest and gifted. among the absolute best. jewel, roger waters, lennon mccartney, miles davis, charlotte martin, larry john mcnally, roland orzabal – alana will have her place among giants. listened to her first two albums 1000′s of times. incredible.
some a**hole got a hold of her and she must be enslaved, probably next to that other genius, greeg alexander, writing music for toyota and jess simson. or maybe she went off the deep end, living on a (cat) farm near niagara falls. who the f*** knows. fact is, she left us her music, to help us make it through the next 100 years. oh boy. thanks alana. thanks gregg. selfish bastards. but we love ya anyway.
