As much as I like Beirut, I don’t think they got it right this time. I mean Beirut has its charm, but it is definitely not the greatest spot on Earth to vacation in. At first, I thought the article was trying new things, but it totally discredited itself when they put Doha, Qatar in 9th place. Dubai, maybe. But, Doha?

Is there something in Athens or Rome or Paris that doesn’t exist in beirut? Are the alps a better mountain chain than lebanon’s mountains?, is the see in the cyclades clearer than it is in south lebanon?.. Is the french or the Italian cuisine more refined than the Lebanese one?, are girls in Venezuela more attractive than in Lebanon?… Is the night life more in intense in Paris London and New York than it is in Beirut? Are the Roman ruins older in Italy than they are in lebanon……. The list is long i could keep on writing pages on the wonders and the culture of lebanon but the best for who do not know this little country full of history where people greet their hosts like nowhere else on this planet, is to visit this incredible place…
I think what you do is wrong. I am Greek and i adore Lebanon. I was born there and i’ve been visiting it more than twice per year since i moved to Greece. Lebanon is beautiful, it has a secret magic that no, its not a magic you find only in Lebanon ,its the magic you find in any country or city or area that captivates your imagination,in any place you find a piece of your soul. Aegean sea is crystal clear and yes good or bad more clear than the south of Lebanon. Aegean beaches lack the size and length of Lebanese shores. Rome is Rome, London is London and Beirut is Beirut. You cant compare them this way. Every country has something to show that you cant find in another country. Either thats a landscape or a man-made thing.
The nightlife in Beirut is awesome. And its as vibrant and intense as in any other country where the people unite and enjoy a night out. Beirut will be a jewel always but there isnt just one diamond in the world.
Lebanon is the best place on earth, i`ve been to many countries but no where is like Lebanon.
i`ve been to doha and seen many pictures to dubai its all buildings,and nothing special about them.
in lebanon everything is special the mountains, seas, people, food everything.

I’m french, I work in Doha… is it among the 44 places to visit?? are you kidding me? if you want to visit malls that are everywhere the same, go to doha. i go to beirut everytime i have a long weekend. i go ski in faraya, i party in gimayzi with all the beautiful lebanese people. at lease this country has a spirit and identit, Just sitting sipping coffee on the street of hamra or achrafieh makes my day. thumbs up to beirut

Was recently in Shanghai and had heard so much about night life there but was quite disppointed!! Music is great fbut the energy of the people is non existing!! And that’s not something u lack in Beirut’s nightlife, any given day of the week!!

I respect your prefered choice of Paris over Beirut.
There is no doubt that Paris is quite a beautiful city however allow me to correct you when you say Beirut is a copy of Paris.
Beirut is not a copy of Paris, you are maybe not aware of the historical events that happened: Lebanon was under the French rule for many years, and that is why you find alot of french influence from colonial style architecture, fashion, lifestyle, language…. That is why we call it Paris of the Midle East.
But also Lebanon has it’s authenticity that is highly admired by the French and 7 French out of 10 prefer living in Lebanon because of the lovely weather, the lifestyle and the atmosphere.
Furthermore Lebanon has a more diversed history than France.
Speaking of Fashion, not that i’m a fashion freek but maybe you’re also not aware that France and many other EU countries import clothing from Lebanese fashion designers like famous Elie Saab, Akira… just like Lebanon imports from Dior, Cartier, YSL….
All in all i know we are the most beautiful country in the Middle East unlike Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi who are competing in beeing #1 in tallest and biggest and artificial buildings and leisure (ski Dubai is a kids joke), when in fact they could best be described as ” India of the middle east”.

I’m from Sydney Australia, and couple years ago I was invited to visit Lebanon with few friends, and it was one of the best places I ever visited !!!
I think you really have an issue with either Lebanon or some one Lebanese to be so desperate to give a bad picture, instead of focusing on saying bad things about it, why don’t you try to do some research and tell us what’s a better place and why ? instead of comparing ?

i lived in lebanon and I am a world traveler. I have seen better, it’s not the best place on earth.
I left Lebanon 25 years ago and never went back, I am living in Montreal Canada and I love my second country, I travel twice a year to other countries and I always find beautiful and less beautiful things in every place, the same in Lebanon BUT I will tell you something for those who doubt about Lebanon being a beautiful country, it is not the bars, the music, the ruins, the food, the people, the sea, the snow, the mountains, the sand, the girls, the guys, the orient, the west, the muslims, the christians, the universities, the liberty , the culture, and also not long ago the wars, the killing, the war handicaps, the massacres…etc Lebanon is all the above, Lebanese are a survival species, they want to enjoy life and they show it! In addition you cannot compare Beirut to Paris or to Rio or to NY…etc but in Lebanon you can have a piece of all the cities of the world from Paris to Dubai, NY to Rio, Athens to San Fransisco…etc Give them peace and see what they will accomplish,

No..no..no…I have been all over the world..and there is no place that shares the same warmth as lebanon..Maybe from teh outside Beirut isnt the most beautiful city..but its the people..their reluctance for love..their will to live to welcome whoever no matter how much they’ve been through that makes that place so magical..needless to say it also has so much history and is so authentic..and your right maybe there are places that are more beautiful then lebanon physically but there is no place in the world and I can guarantee this Lebanon..the country..the people..the culture..the warmth..the emotion is one of the best places on earth..and if you dont understand that this means you have only seen it from the outside..and you are lacking to look beneath the surface..and see it for what it truly is..and that is a beauty.
I know I haven’t seen much, and haven’t been to a lot of places, but I do know that when I first lay my foot down in Beirut, I’m the happiest person on earth ! It’s a feeling I can’t really describe ! The buildings, the streets, the people, heck even the traffic over there excites me ! I love how it can be 2:00 AM and the downtown is still crowded, I love it how the streets are never empty, I love it how Muslims and Christians live together in peace, and walk by each others’ side, when they have failed to do so in all the countries that self-claim to be the most democratic ones ! There is no doubt that Paris and NY are WONDERFUL cities, but give me the name of one city in the world in which you can go to the beach in the morning, go skiing in the afternoon, and party at night, other than Beirut?! YOU CAN’T !!
And to tell you the truth, if it wasn’t for Beirut and the people of Beirut, I would never, not in a million years, be proud to be Lebanese .. and I’d trade anything, ANYTHING, to be FROM Beirut !

in lebanon i think Fashion has taste, and it has world-class designers like Elie Saab and Zuhair Murad and many others.
Let me first say that Beirut is among the oldest cities in the world ( btw the OLDEST city in the world is Byblos which is also in Lebanon, therefore there is no question about the level of culture heaping in Lebanese cities). What makes Beirut so special is its diversity. 1 min you could be observing hip-hoppers on the streets of Bourj Hammoud, and in another minute you could be in Ashrafyeh, one of the most elegant places in Beirut, and at night u could be in Downtown enjoying the beautiful buildings and the CRAZY parties. Another important thing i should say : yes, lebanon had a dark point in its history – the civil war, but so did the U.S.with its own civil war, as well as Switzerland and many other countries. What i’m concerned about is the present. Today, if you take a walk in Beirut, you will definitely notice the harmony between Islam and christianity. Churches right next to mosques is not a rare thing in the world, but it is the great frequency of this occurance that makes Beirut so special.
Not to mention the world class food in Lebanon which is very fairly priced btw. Lebanese restaurants provide amazing food while being easy ont the wallet.

my dad is lebanese and mom is russian most of my life i live in russia.But i cant wait for summer to visit lebanon.Of course there are marks of the civil war and war with israel.But despite the constant attacks beirut still seems to be a glorious city that had never seen war.The city wants and knows how to live.If its f***** neighbour would leave lebanon in peace for ten years you would see how the country would like.So the only problem lebanon has got is jealousy from its neighbour.
