Don’t Quote Me, Vol. 207
“Cautious, careful people, always casting about to preserve their reputation and social standing, never can bring about a reform. Those who are really in earnest must be willing to be anything or nothing in the world’s estimation.”
- Susan B. Anthony
Kuwait elects 4 women to parliament
2Don’t mind the late-news headline, but I couldn’t resist the “News Of The Day” aura. So, yes Kuwait finally did it. The people of Kuwait broke another barrier in the on-going war on sexism and discrimination. And when it rains, it pours. Not one, but four. One of which was the first in her district and another the second. It’s hardly a liberal uprising and, to tell you the truth, some of them could might as well pass for the piety bloc. But, complaining is so 2000 and late.
Alexander Rybak wins Eurovision for Norway
3After a long and winding road down the Eurovision Song Contest selection process. The Norwegian, Alexander Rybak, won by a mile. He was the favorite and his song was as good as it gets for ESC. The votes came in and Norway was constantly at the top of the game. Turkey, Azerbaijan, Iceland and the United Kingdom were close but didn’t quite make it to the same ranks. The singer’s set to take the world by storm. Looking forward to the Oslo show next year.
Let’s hope for triumph tonight…
Can you feel it?
The Votes Are In
So, the vote are in and I am afar anticipating and waiting for the results. It’s kind of pointless as I really don’t find anyone that appealing, at least in my district. But, I have some that are the best of the worst. Maybe one. Whatever the results are the next dynamic of the parliament won’t be a liberal one. Highly unlikely. In any case, it’s always nice to have some sort of a fresh start even if the same faces pop up here and there and everywhere. Let’s see what this brings. Follow it here.

4She’s back to music and this time she is going for a more sultry sound. Her album is called The Real Thing, which sounds nauseatingly Lopezian. It’s coming out June 4th.

1Wanda Sykes has twins with wife
Recently out comedienne and all-around lovely lady just had twins with her wife right after the “controversial” White House Correspondents Dinner gig. Read the full story at a click:
Alexander Rybak should win Eurovison
1Routing for Norway this time. Trans-european song. Cheekily cute. Good voice. Somersaults. What’s not to like?
New Tori Amos album has been leaked
Abnormally Attracted To Sin has been leaked through the internets and is not circulating all the download blogs. I wouldn’t dare download it not only because you usually get a better deal with Tori Amos album in physical form, but also because she is newly independent and it would be of the utmost rudeness to disregard that fact about self-signed great. Also, the deluxe additions of her albums are always a hoot. Don’t download, buy! Click here for a quencher. She’s always right. I love her.

Must-Watch: Video: “Lille” by Lisa Hannigan
See Saw drabs on a bit, but that’s only from a couple of listens. Folk albums, especially the ones of the softer side, take some time to get used to. But, there are already 2 standout tracks. This song and “I Don’t Know.” Always thought it’d be a great idea for her to go solo.
Aung San Suu Kyi gets re-trials, new trumped-up charges
Aung San Suu Kyi was towards the end of her unfair detention time, but it seems like she’ll be staying in longer. After an American jumped in a lake and swam to here, the military regime found it to be reason enough to re-assess the victim’s sentence for a couple more years. This is the woman that won the election in Burma but was put in jail for something she didn’t do just to shut her up. In any case, here’s the entire article.
I am not surprised. She is a formidable power in a dictatorship. I swear, when I visited a border town in Myanmar I thought it was a slice of hell. I had never seen such oppression, corruption and poverty.
