Seems like all the greats are gearing up for the imminent return of Lilith Fair. Not only are there rumors that Sarah McLachlan is hard at work trying to release her next album, but Natalie Merchant, one of our all time favorites, have officially announced that she is working full-time on her next studio album 8 years after her previous offering Motherland.

Astana is the next Dubai

1

Borat really didn’t do Kazakhstan justice. Neither did he do gay culture justice with Bruno, but that’s another topic. The truth is all the -stans are really all burgeoning into a prosperous region for their fairly young independent history. Doha has always wanted to be the next Dubai, but Astana is more like it. They have many million-dollar projects going on as you can see in the video, that Astana, a small city of just under a million heads, is bound to be the next big metropolis, especially considering that that part of the world is in need of focal point of commerce and culture. Astana might be it.

V.V. Brown disappoints with debut

3

Being excited about V.V. Brown’s debut album proved that most artists today are more hype than content. I was so happy to get it because I thought it was going to have enough hits to last me the rest of the year. But, it turns out that it is really a lackluster, over-produced piece of, dare I say, rubbish. The bestest song on there is “Shark In The Water,” which is really not all that and a big of crisps if you ask me. the problem is that everything is direct and straight-to-your-face. They concentrated on the beats but not the melody. It’s loud, but without a punch. Like Yoko Ono record. Travelling Like The Light is a real disappointment. Evem Little Boots Hands. was better.

Dan Black debuts “Un”

1

DB_U

To keep up with the electro surge, one has to have Dan Black’s newly released album Un. The British electronica child released a surprisingly radio-friendly album following his stint in Glastonbury and his internet fame mashing up tracks. The debut single “Symphonies” is really not all that. He needs to step away from the Rihanna samples. But other tracks are quite good like “Alone” and “Cigarette Pack.” He is like a nice fusion between Frankmusik and Sam Sparro. All around, the album syncs well and has some growers. So, it’s exciting if they’ll catch one or wither away.

Alana Davis tracks with the Neptunes leak

1

As some of you might know, Alana Davis has taking a hiatus so long that she has escaped our heads for a tiny bit. She’s chilling in Jamaica now and the ganja must be slowing her down. But, a beautiful surprise has surfaced. There are two tracks named “Here Inside” and “New Glasses” that have made their way to YouTube during her sessions with the Neptunes. The latter track sounds like it has Pharrell on backing vocals. they are not good enough for an album but they could be a work-in-progress. Anyway, it’s hard to tell what album sessions they are from. I hope they are from the new one, but judging from Alana Davis’s newly indie mantra, they might either be from Fortune Cookies or one-offs before her split with Elektra. Anyway, any new material from Alana is welcome and we hope a new album is coming out soon. Does anyone know how to rip the track off of YouTube and into mp3 format?

Glad they didn’t use the picture that has been circulating around the internets for a while now. This is a great album cover for Whitney. It’s a declaration of maturity and sanity with a little pinch of diva thrown in. She looks like she is very astute and glamazon-esque. I Look To You is pointing at all the right directions. Also, the track listing has been announced. Click below for it.

Meterosexuality in Russia

2

The term meterosexuality never sat well. I mean it’s not a sexual orientation, why call it that? Just because men are taking care of themselves and happen not to be gay, why do they have t have a label? Like, they need in in order to differentiate themselves from the homo tag? In any case, glad Russia loosening up on its über-masculinity, if this is anything to really go by.

Ani DiFranco goes vinyl, again

alb_063v

Normally, this wouldn’t be news. But, it’s our very own lovely – Ani DiFranco – re-releasing last year’s Red Letter Year as a vinyl offering. But, the sexy part is that there is an additional track. It’s an extended remix of “Emancipated Minor,” which is a great track off of the album. Too bad our gramophone is not working no more. And Righteous Babe does not deliver to Kuwait. Trust me, I tried and I still don’t have my Little Plastic Remixes.

Vintage Björk getting quirky yet very informative

The worst bjork fan on earth is me. This looks like it’s circa Debut and I have never seen it. But as always in her quirky cheeky way she makes great sense and you know how much of a fan I am a fan of alternative thinking and people who think for themselves instead of swallow anything society tells them. I know a few of those hungry ones. In any case, nice find! Now, I want some new material that is less Volta more Homogenic.
