For me, he weekend already started!
Melanie C releases second live DVD
1As I have said, time and time again – Melanie C is one of the most underrated talents of the pop world. The Spice Girls cloud never went away and she has became prey to her past glories. Her career is barely surviving, mainly because Germany doesn’t judge pop music as do other nations. Her 4 albums have all had great triumphs on them that, if it hadn’t been for the Spice bubble, could have been big hits. Now that she has taken a hiatus to be the last Spice to reproduce, she has released this live and intimate kind of DVD. It’s her second on Red Girl Records, her own independent label. This Live At Hard Rock Cafe DVD is for a charity called the Carol Keating Foundation which provides support to health professionals. Caron Keating herself died for denying that and being swayed into believing into alternative medicine. Click for the trailer.
Bill O’Reilly disses Michael Jackson and Memorial
3Livid. I am. This conservative women-hating, racist, gay-bashing sexual harasser is talking crap about Michael Jackson. No, he is not just an “entertainer,” he shaped pop culture and made this world progress. Al Sharpton was right. Michael Jackson broke a lot of race barriers and introduced the world to a lighter less sinister face of America. He single-handedly reshaped everything we know in music today and presented the world with a different perspective. What a uneducated charlatan! Vile human!

2The billboard that bleeds
2
This is such an effective billboard campaign. I mean, it wouldn’t work here because everyone would slam their breaks to see it without regard to what’s behind them. But, it worked in New Zealand. Ads should always secrete liquids, if you ask me.
Trey Lorenz is third most searched on Google.com
Mariah’s backing vocalist and best friend Trey Lorenz is now, for the first time, more searched than Mariah herself. Following his appearance on Michael Jackson’s memorial show inquiry on him has risen like never before.
As lambs might know, Trey is one of, if not the only, person who has been in Mariah’s entourage since the get-go. He can be seen in every single Mariah DVD ever released. Every tour. And even in early footage on her first feature VHS rehearsing with Mariah before she made her name.

Yes, immaturity makes me laugh.
New album from Air titled Love 2
1Just when you thought the gentle gods of chill out have taken a long “unbend and unwind” they all gush out with new material. First, it was Royskopp. Then, Moby releases one of the best efforts of the year. Now, both Zero 7 and Air announce that they are releasing full lengthers this year. Air are also giving out a free track titled “Do They Joy,” which is obviously not that single because it’s really not that exciting. Sounds like an off-shoot from 10,000 Hz Legend that never made it onto Everybody Hertz. But, it’s just a buzz builder and I am sure there is sexier stuff on Love 2. Not quite sure if this is the album cover, it’s OK. Excited for all this new material. In fact, this is the third most anticipated release for me this year. Mariah, Whitney then Air. Then Zero 7. Unless Fiona Apple releases something, they will all go down one number.
Mariah Carey sings for Michael Jackson
3That was too predictable. But, I am glad she performed and showed up. She could have done something different like “Stranger In Moscow” or “Heal The World.” And, it would have been better if she asked one of the brothers to sing with her instead of dragging Trey Lorenz everywhere. I am going to go watch the entire thing now and get back to you.
Letoya’s cover for Lady Love
For an R&B starlett, this is quite stunning. The net around her and the typface(s) and the colors. It all works. It’s even better than her debut album which was a diva-spectacle. I wonder if she’ll get to the top spot again. What with Beyonce, Michelle, Solange and Kelly all having offerings this year.
Beyonce sings for Michael Jackson
3Who know that Beyonce and I have the same favorite MJ song? This death is bringing people together. I like her a but more, yet I am still bitter about the madonna-britney-christina kiss comment thing she made. This is heartfelt. The part are she says MJ’s name in the song again and again is wrenching.
Smash Hits magazine to re-launch for Michael Jackson
1Smash Hits magazine, the magazine that I lived on and loved during a big chunk of my adolescent years, if coming back. Only for one issue to commemorate the life and legacy of Michael Jackson. This magazine was really the greatest piece of pop journalism before the advent of the internet. It’s editor-in-chief was once Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys. I hope that this issue will make the Smash Hitters think about relaunching it forever. Maybe as a blog?

Two of the great masterminds behind the electro movement join forces. The result: nothing special.
Diana King releases song about Michael Jackson
Remember Diana King? Of “Shy Guy” fame in the mid-90s’. She also had other hits like “L-L-Lies” and a cover of “I Say A Little Prayer For You” for the My Best Friend’s Wedding soundtrack. She had a couple of minor hits here and there and she still remains famous in her home country of Jamaica. Anyway, she has just given out a great track dedicated to Michael Jackson. It’s 90s’ sounding, but quite an effort for the time she had to put it together. It’s called “Mi-Cha-El” and it’s available for free on her website.
Video: “I Am Not A Robot” by Marina & The Diamonds
2Fresh video. Bursting into glitter is always wanted and needed. The song’s not bad either.

3Whitney Houston names album “I Look To You”
Jesus. Maybe? Bobby Brown? Unlikely. Michael Jackson? Yes. Anyway, the title is tepid and not what was expected. It should have been a proclamation. Some big statement about coming back and standing out. I mean, if Ashanti can call her album The Declaration then Whitney Houston can do much better, for reals. I Look To You doesn’t quite deliver liked Undefeated. The supposed first single, which I am sure is just a teaser, is already being hailed as a Leona Lewis b-side. The title is overawing – “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” – but the strength’s not in the song. Voice in-tact, but not that great of a melody. Everything aside, any new material is welcome.
Honduras joins list of countries in turmoil
Following the prevention of the landing of ousted president Zelaya Honduras joined the ranks of countries in unrest. This is looking like a global call for change rather than sporadic outbursts of resistance. This happens all the time but still it’s worth a look. I can think of a bunch of countries wanting this supposed change and have gone to great lengths. Firstly, Iran. But, that is not to forgot on-going struggles in Somalia, East Timor, Thailand, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq. Now, we see a country on a totally different continent wanting reform. Sign of the times? Maybe. But, if you want peace, prepare to fight.
Noah lands on the pop world
1As mentioned, Noah is one of the most promising artists of the year. With his brand of pop-conscious electro and dazzling visuals, he is bound to make some waves. If not on MTV and radio, then around the blogosphere. This has yet to happen. But, it will when he releases a video. This is just a teaser of what is to come, even if it looks like a cologne commercial.
