Basement Jaxx have been dropped

jaxx

Basement Jaxx haven’t been asked to be back on their record company’s roster. XL Records did not offer them another deal after their 5 album contract ended. So, now they have this last album titled Scars to promote and then that’s it. The record company will probably not release anymore singles and just live off the first week’s sales, which are usually the strongest for such an established band.

Video: “The One” by Mary J. Blige featuring Drake

1

This song has leaked a while ago and it was featured on one of the compilation. But , we think it’s a tired attempt at releasing an upbeat and trendy track. She should stick to what she does best and stop trying to break the market or fit new trends. A big “No More Drama” number would have been more effective and less timely. Let’s hope Stronger has better songs.

Oasis have broken up

2

oasis_wonderwall2_2

Oasis have split. Yes, it’s yet another fight between the Gallagher brothers. This time Liam (always the shit-starter) allegedly insinuated that Noel’s daughter Anais wasn’t his spawn. So Noel picked up and left. But this is just the fodder. The real news is that Oasis haven’t released anything substational since “D’Ya Know What I Mean” and are, therefore, irrelevant in these times. Also, Liam sure talks a lot of shit for someone with a horrid voice fronting Oasis. Noel is the one that writes the everything and he is the reason why they are a household name. Can’t wait to see Liam squirm when Noel releases his solo material.

Margaret Cho is back and “Beautiful”

2

Margaret Cho is one of our icons. Her stand-up comedy is some of the best shit we’ve seen ever (and we’ve seen a whole lotta stand-up). This DVD, titled Beautiful, is set to be released november 17th and we can’t wait. It will be her 5th stand-up DVD. It’s bound to bring the chuckles for a year to come.

KoC_Declaration_of_Dependence

We have it all at once. The album cover, the album title, the tracklisting, the first single and a mini-review of Kings Of Convenience’s long-awaited junior album Declaration Of Dependence. Firstly, the album cover is up there and it’s supposed to give you an idea of the island folk you’re about to listen to. Secondly, the title is also an ode to the surrender you will experience when you listen to it. Thirdly, the tracklisting is available below. Click if you wanna see it. Fourthly, the first single is set to be “Mrs. Cold” although “Boat Behind” has also been released to radio. Finally, the mini album review: Its what we have come to expect for the norwegian duo but with beachy influences and a little more optimism, which makes for a lovely lay-around records. Now, what?

Video: “Up/Down” by Jessica Mauboy

2

We love everything East Timor. So, we have support Jessica Mauboy. She’s Australian of Timorese Indonesian heritage. She looks a little (and acts) like a cross between Christina Milian and Kat DeLuna. She’s big back in here home country but now she’s trying to cross over. This won’t do it, it’s too middle-of-the-road dance R&B, but it might make some waves with younger audiences.

Anouk reveals cover for “For Bitter Or Worse”

9-51-20090826101553

We first saw it over at Arjan’s blog and now it’s making the rounds all across the internets. It’s quite an attention-grabber. She looks like she’s mid-fight and still going for it. It also works with the title For Bitter Or Worse. The album should hold some great tunes.

Alphabeat return with magnificent single “The Spell”

This song could be the best song you hear in 2009. We had heard that our favorite Danish band Alphabeat was going to channel early vocal house from the 90s’, but we didn’t new they’d sift through the bad and get to the good. It sounds like a laid-back version of Blackbox or Technotronic. The song is so lush with optimism it should have been a summer single. Kudos to them for defying the trends and trying to make good old fun pop. We can’t wait for the The Spell.

Sugababes name album Sweet 7

1

Sugababes092

The muchly-anticipated album of one of the greatest non-disbanded girl bands has been given a name. Sweet 7 is the 7th Sugababes album. It’s really not that original. Catfights & Spotlights is better. They should have waited for their 17th album for that. Something tells me this will be the last full-length album from them. “Get Sexy” is too great for “common” people, so it won’t perform well even if it’s better than most of the pop songs of this year. Let’s just wait and see there could be a knock-em-down single. But, so far, it’s make-or-break.
