It’s very smart of People magazine to pull something like this out. I mean, when the news of MJ is old and there is nothing around, why not bring together one of TV’s most famous gangs and go an expose on them? They haven’t changed that much and they all look good, still. Mario Lopez is still in the spotlight. The rest, no so much. Still, Elizabeth Berkeley’s Showgirls is one of the greatest movies ever.
World’s screaming competition
2This would be a fun thing to do. Another reason why Thailand is one of the swellest places on earth. I wonder what the highest decibel count was and who was behind it. The Russian won here, but it didn’t seem like he screamed as loud as some of the others. Maybe he knows how the decibel machine works as his scream was very brief. Anyway, have you ever wondered what your decibel count is?
Film: Grey Gardens is actually quite good
7If you know me, you know that I am not a movie buff. In fact, in the entire year for 2008, I watched less movies than there are month in the year. I just find movies, these days, too Hollywoodized and too predictable or all-together unnecessary. If it’s not foreign, subtitled and independent, I don’t wanna watch it (unless it’s historical). At any rate, I was bored for a second and got a hold of Grey Gardens. A made-for-HBO movie about two debutantes who happen to be Jackie O’s cousin and aunt who lived an opulent life which deteriorated into poor conditions when the shackles of a male-dominated world got to them. It’s a riches-to-rags story. This description doesn’t do it that much justice but I wanted some sort of synopsis. It’s the film adaptation of an actual documentary that was a cult success back in 1975. It’s one of the few movies that I would actually recommend. Last ones were Shortbus and Milk, if you’d like to get an inkling of my taste. I love Little Edith (below).
Exclusive: Video: “Wild About It” by Natalie Imbruglia
1We are very excited to catch the new Natalie Imbruglia the second it came out. The number of views is in the 2 digits and we already love the song. She is newly-independent and ready to reclaim her glory. She has disappeared for a while to record Come To Life, which is set for the third quarter release. The song is a little quieter than we expect from the “Torn” singer, but it’s a grower and is probably only a snippet of what’s to come on her highly-anticipated upcoming album.
Update: this is not the first single, it’s just a teaser. The official first single will be released in September and it will be called “Want.” Also, as we stated, the album is slated for an October 5th release. Excited!
Nintendo as a key chain
4Not much of gaming person, but this is too cute to be straight. The old Gameboy has gotten a revamping for the new decade as a key chain that has games on it for your spare time or when you are bored. The little key-chains “mini-classics” are being sold with 3 games on them: Super Mario Bros., Mario’s Cement Factory, and Donkey Kong Junior. Just enough for you to get glued. They also come with a alarm clock and a stand. All for the price of $16. Now, that’s a bargain. Wait, it’s just a key-chain. Anyway, click here to find out more.
Bill Maher’s revelation of the “Christian Mafia”
“If you are a person who is successful or in power, you are there because god wants you there.” That’s some powerful stuff that makes the religious stand up and justify their violence and hatred. We see it the world over. This, to them, OK’s Pol Pot and Hitler and all the dictators who are within breach of human rights. This also defies the core of what American should be. The merging of church and state and we all know how that goes. The religious czars really believe that they are devoid of law and ethics (or moral) no not apply to them. It’s a dangerous concept that we see in our day-to-day life here but turn a blind eye because some of us are so used to it.
Want some bacon lip balm?
2There have been a myriad of flavors for lip balm. From chocolate mousse to watermelon sunshine to Dr. Pepper. But, now this company is going out on a limb with some bacon lip balm. I must say, I would buy it. Not just because of its novelty but because I happen to love bacon. The crispier, the better. I wonder if it does bacon justice.
Video: “Impossible” by Daniel Merriweather
2Not too sure about this single. As my friend puts it: “I like everything about it, it just doesn’t come together very well.” He is like a commercial version of Conner Reeves. The video is just not happening and, so far, none of his videos have been good. But, the track can suffice. The is demand for his brand of blue-eyed soul. But, if “Red” didn’t work, this won’t.
Erik Hassle to repackage for the world
1There hasn’t been an announcement for it, but this cover has leaked around the blogosphere as an official album cover for, what is called now, Pieces. No word yet on what it will contain, but it seems like Erik Hassle is repackaging his album Hassle for a UK release and, later, a world release. This is the result. The older cover was much more striking. But, this is a more mature sleeve. The new album title is probably a reference to his next single “Love You To Pieces,” which is being primped for a late summer release and is already out in Sweden. Good luck to him as the album is one of the year’s best.
Exclusive: Video: “Wild Young Hearts” by the Noisettes
2Not the best video on earth. The song is catchy, but the album is filled with catchy. Wild Young Hearts is quite an effort of electro beats with a surprising element of the slow. “Saturday Night” was slated to be the next single, I wonder why this surfaced.
Paul Smith triggers the masculine with “Man”
2Not that Paul Smith can’t pull a couple of good number out his rainbow pin-striped sleeve, but did he really find that name suitable. It would have been cool if it was titled “Man” but smelled all fruity and sweet. But, in his quest for masculinity he picked that name. Same goes with his clothes. When was the last time you walked into a Paul Smith store and didn’t come out looking like you are preppy for a job interview?
Must-Watch: Video: “Strawberry Swing” by Coldplay
2Everything went downhill from their debut album, but the hipsters kept being their records and that allows them to make pretty nice videos like this one.

Lovely.
The peacock chair has been invented
Some fresh designer by the name of Dror Benshetrit has decided to ditch conventional materials and start using felt as a replacement to cotton or whatever your sofa has in it. The result is this – the peacock chair. A chair invented to comfort and to dazzle. And if you get it early, it could be a conversational piece, too. It molds and shifts to fit your contours while still looking like the modern masterpiece that it is.
Exclusive: Video: “Silly Boy” by Eva Simons
3Accidentally stumbled upon this artist and she brings the fierceness to forefront. What a waste of a great video on a blah song. Not sure who she is or what she does, but I will dig in for you.
Loft965.com nominated for a Dazed Raw Blog Award
4We are very proud to announce that Loft965.com has been nominated for the Dazed Raw Blog Awards in the category of music. The winners will be announced soon, but, as they say, it’s a pleasure just to be nominated especially since we are not even a year old. Thanks muchly A.
Video: “Get Sexy” by the Sugababes
7Surprisingly, “Get Sexy” is quite solid track with a beat so hot, it’s up there with the Black Eyes Peas “Boom Boom Pow.” The album, which Amazon.co.uk said was called LP7 but is not, will have two singles out already before it drops. This is happening with a lot of artists because after the advent of iTunes and other sites, the album seems to be dying and singles are all that brings in the money these days. So, we get two singles from Sugababes, two from Mariah, two from Beyonce and two leaks from Whitney.
Amanda Blank’s ready to take over
1She has some serious beats. Today, there is a lot of fodder on MySpace and circulating online. But, Amanda Blank has the goods to bring it. “Might Like You Better” is becoming quite a net hit and will hopefully reach a broader audience once a video is made. Hear it here!
Annie Lennox’s solo career compressed
2Annie Lennox has had an impressive solo career, especially considering the fact that it’s heavily built on cover versions. Her double-platinum album Medusa is made up entirely of covers and the new single is an Ash cover. Her voice is her trademark and she has left a cultural impact on the pop world with her solo work and her time as one-half of the Eurythmics. This is a DJ Earworm compression of her solo efforts in celebration of her greatest hits collection.
