“To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries.”
- Aldous Huxley
Living with a snoop of a roommate? About to live in the dorms? Or just plain paranoid? Then this laptop safe box is made just for you. It’s the latest in dorm facilities that is available to many students now. It’s called the dorm vault. You just put in your laptop and go party or get on an acid binge. It’s safe.
Well thought-out covers are always a great surprise. This little feminist ditty would have disappeared into 90s’ indie oblivion had it not been for it’s great lyrical prowess and simple melody. Truly a gem that needs to be unearthed.
Our favorite Danes (second only to Tina Dico) have already completed a new album that was rumored to be called This Is Still Alphabeat, but have announced that it will actually be The Spell, which is a song that will be on the album. The Spell is going to be out in October in an already crammed year. Songs that will be included are “Heart Failure,” “DJ,” “Chess” and the title track. The band say that they are not staying with the sound they came popular for but will take a different route in inspiration of 90s’ early house bands like Blackbox and Snap!, which is super appealing. We love both bands.
Everyone is ranting and yelling about how Obama has lost the trust of the people and the world has yet to see some “change” for them to grant him credibility. But, sometimes when you are deep in the cesspit of someone else’s faults, it takes time to surface. The resurrection of the world’s state rests upon his shoulders and that is not any easy task, to say the least. He took office after one of the worst presidents in modern times inheriting a measly economy, two wars and a bunch of issues that have been shut down in the name of war. This term is really not enough for him to rectify all that has gone wrong in the past from Reagan’s disregard for civil rights, to Bush’s first war handling, to Clinton plateau to the worst presidency in the US’s history.
It’s amazing how Mýa has survived so many flops in a row. Still, she remains with that tired old R&B template and beats that are not bound to take her anywhere but a lower end of the R&B charts. This is from her Beauty & The Streets Vol.1 mixtape released independently. She needs to re-invigorate and experiment with new beats. Perhaps opting for a more dance-oriented sound. She probably would sell better as a dance artist. Imagine her working with Frankmusik or Miguel Migs. Yes! A collaboration album between her and Miguel would definitely stir some heads.
Going on a scavenger hunt around MySpace is always fruitful. The Cassette Kids are the newest find. The aussie band has some fun beats under their sleeve/s. Their music verges of the fringes of pop only to connect with a strong electro aura. In return for your precious e-mail details they will give a sample. A free track titled “Freaky Sweetie” is available on their website. Also, you can hear a bunch of tracks on their MySpace page.
Are you still gutted that the Polaroid camera has been discontinued in 2008? Well, Urban Outfitter, with it’s love for anything that fuses quirk with vintage, has resurrected the camera for a limited time. 700 of the cameras will be available at select stores. The camera will come with film. So you have (what was it 6 or 7?) a couple of pics to take with that iconic white frame. I, personally, was given a Spice Girls Polaroid camera for my 9th and have no intent on using it, but constantly hugging it.
The Saturdays are not wasting a single minute between album after their success. The first single for the second album is ready for your viewing even when the album hasn’t been titled. The sound is not that much of a stretch, but it’s a different thing for them. It can totally be a jukebox favorite on Old Compton Street. So, Frankie didn’t leave and they are still in tact for the second serving.
Going through Brandy’s wikipedia page, we read along to find out about any album or single news and we found a little known fact about the singer. Brandy and her brother Ray-J are actually the cousins of Snoop Dogg. How is that not well known? We googled it and only 2 obscure pages turned up about the subject. To make things even more fascinating. The cousins are also cousins with influential guitarist Bo Diddley. It’s all in the family. This is better than Kristinia DeBarge’s Janet Jackson connection!
We have loved Michael Moore since we had to watch Roger & Me. He has constantly brought news from a different, yet progressive perspective. Everything he has ever released was a revelation: Bowling For Columbine, Fahrenheit 911, Sicko and his TV shows. This is the one to wait for. The documentarian is on a quest to reveal capitalism in its truest forms. Can’t wait!
Literally!
Don’t try this at home.
First and foremost, a diva is not “a female version of a hustler,” as Beyonce would like you to believe. It’s actually quite the contrary. It means an woman of outstanding talents and a knack for perseverance. It’s about wisdom, strength, nerve and talent. Sadly to say, Vh1 is about to relaunch Divas Live for 2009 and the line-up has no divas at all. The stars are Jordin Sparks, Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis and Miley Cyrus (a diva? really!?). None of which have the age or wisdom to be divas just yet. They all have the potential, don’t get me wrong. They’re just not what a diva is. Bring me Whitney, Mariah, Janet, Madonna, Diana, Donna, Chaka, Pat or Cher. Hell, even Christina, Beyonce or Britney would do.
The queen is out! What is a “Nazi policy?” The conservatives are out of their minds trying to brand Obama the next Hitler because he wants to extend healthcare to every American. How is that a Nazi belief? Because they are equating health care reform with socialism? Public libraries are socialist, do you call your local librarian Lenin?
