Madonna releases promo for Celebration

6

Her promotional video for Celebration is better than the videos for “Get Together,” “Jump” and “Miles Away” combined! She’s gearing up to release her “complete” collection of. Spanning what she thinks is best (or what sold most) of her career. We won’t buy it, but the promo’s fun in a megamix kind of way.

Again: Music for Winter: Laxicover

laxicover

Listening to Florence + The Machine’s version of Candi Staton‘s ode to obesity “You Got The Love” reminded us of how powerful a cover version can be and how it could present a different angle to an already marvelous song. This inspired us to make a one-off compilation (which we rarely do) filled with cover versions of songs we love that have been made into different, but equally succulent versions.

Opting for a sound that wouldn’t be overwhelming but still manages to get the song across, we went with the more relaxed covers, hence the name Laxicover. The compilation includes covers within the span of 12 years. What’s good made it, basically. It’s the type of record that you can play on end in the background and, also, jam to whenever you want. We hope you enjoy the chill sounds and my hairy legs.

Preview Mariah Carey’s new song “100%”

Previews of the new single are popping up everywhere. Some, usually credible, blogs are stating that the next single (or the “first” single now) is going to be the Foreigner cover “I Want To Know What Love Is.” But, we thought it was highly unlikely because covers rarely chart atop and we are sure Mariah is going to ride the “We Belong Together” template until it dies. This sounds a bit like “Bye Bye,” which can be good or catastrophic. Still, anything new from MC is exciting.

Kylie Minogue graces the cover of Instinct, news on new album

Instinct

Kylie graces the cover of oft-forgotten gay magazine Instinct looking absolutely and ridiculously ferosh. The real queen of pop has once again stepped back into the limelight to start promoting what will be her 11th album due early 2010. The collaborators on this album will include Xenomania and Calvin Harris. Also, she has been working with Nerina Pallot, Andy Chatterly and Biffco. There’s a rumor that the album will be titled Fire, or it could be just a track on the record.

Michelle Branch reveals album cover and single choice

Everything%20Comes%20and%20Goes%20Cover

Michelle released two teeny-bopper albums and then disappeared. That is not to say that she doesn’t have an adequate amount of talent. At the time she came out they were pitting the new rock girls against each other – herself, Vanessa Carlton and Avril Lavigne. Avril went on to sell millions and annoy the world, Vanessa continues her streak of great singer-songwriter ditties with her loyalists and Michelle turned country. Still, Everything Comes And Goes is highly touted as her return to the charts with it’s first single “Sooner Or Later.” Let’s hope it gets her back where she belongs.

Beverley Knight has one of the best voices on earth

2

We are so glad that Mariah Carey pushed her album release date. Now it does not coincide with Beverley Knight’s 100%. Yes, we are anticipating it that much! She has songs that are modern-day classics like “Salvador” and “Remember Me” that managed to slip under the pop radar. She is one of the artists that give you a full treat with every album and try to stray away from any fluff. Anyway, even weaker tracks are rescued with that exceptional voice of hers.

Jad Choueiri does another laughable video for “Stop Popping Pills”

21

Just when we thought that Jad Choueiri couldn’t be more of a cliched tacky wannabe, he goes and outdoes himself. This time, in his quest to propel his drug-persona, he has opted for a house song with some of the worst vocals we had heard in a while (and Heidi Montag has an album coming out). It’s called “Stop Popping Pills,” which is contradictory as we have all seen him tweaking a couple of times. Regardless of what substance he abuses or uses, because he can do whatever he pleases, but it’s only bad because it’s been done before so many times and in the same format. This, still, won’t break him to the English-speaking market he was trying to attain and maintain. This whole album is a failed attempt at trying to cross over and it won’t happen if all he does is regurgitated tracks. If you are trying to break a market don’t try to imitate, but try to add. In any case, his videos are so painful to look at, one can’t help but watch. As my friend puts it: “Stop making videos,” is more like it.

Britney Spears does David Letterman’s Top 10

Is she making fun of herself or is she being played? Not so sure about this. Why in a bikini? Anyway, it’s not as funny as his other ones. “Pie for everyone” – what is that? Abhorrent!

Do you want some milk soda?

072809-vio

The folks over at Coca Cola decided that carbonating some milk is the way to go. The newest dairy product is Vio, a soda that has milk in it or milk with soda in it. Back when we learned we can carbonate anything, we wondered is this could happen. But, we always thought that Laban Up had some carbonation in it or our taste buds could be fooling us. It’ll come ins 4 flavors: Very Berry, Tropical Colada, Peach Mango and Citrus Burst. Something tells us that they will taste like a lassi of sorts that you can find in an Indian restaurant.

Afghan elections will hold no surprises

2

FISH100Hamidity5

Afghanistan looks like it will be, yet again, under the rule of Hamid Karzai. No surprises and no room for change. Karzai was the ally of America during the removal of the Taliban, then became a “transitional” president, then was elected by the people and it looks like he will get back into office. He is formidable and his opponents don’t boast much of a resume either. This, coming after Iran’s shutting up of its people, makes there region stay in its stagnant state. Whatever is suitable for the West remains intact in Afghanistan, while the people still strive for a better standard of living. Everyone is expecting vote-counting flaws and corruption, especially in area where monitors can’t reach. Moreover, half of the people are not voting in this election and the Taliban has called a boycott of this “program of the crusaders.”

Pretty little song from Nerina Pallot’s new album

5

Mainstream folkstress and heart-ache chanteuse Nerina Pallot has finished her third album, which will be called The Graduate. It’s slated for an October release just in time for the autumn sorrow. This song will be included in the line-up and it’s called “It Starts.” She is quirkier than we thought. From what we heard, this sounds like her best work yet.
