This documentary has turned heads a-many while it was being done and during its promo. It seemed to pique the world’s interest as the revelatory bio-doc on Anna Wintour – the most notorious figure in the fashion world. This was also heightened by the fact that The Devil Wears Prada was sold as an inside-look at Anna Wintour wicked ways.
But, once the documentary starts you realize that it is not the sensationalist bring-the-dirt kind of documentary. In fact, it is a kind of tepid look at the making of the fashion industry’s bible and the title of this documentary. Anna Wintour actually comes out as a loving mother and sister with minimal drama. Even Andrea Leon Talley appears to be more talk, less glamour. This was probably commissioned to counter-attack the mainstream image of Anna Wintour. It’s kind of boring, actually, and we came out of it thinking that the people in charge of fashion and aesthetic beauty in this world are, in fact, themselves quite ugly.
