We had the privilege of seeing Florence + The Machine for their first London O2 performance to review it. We have to see that the show was more than we expected and even if the material was entirely from that one debut album (and some b-sides) the show kept rolling greatly. We loved Florence and her energy. She came in sporting everything Qasimi. From the jacket to the gown to the undergarments. She was spectacular and, this might come as a surprise, but her voice is one of most unique on the pop plant. It has strength and rigor while still being fragile and full-on. Great show.
We hope we didn’t fill your iPod with too much gloom last month, but a little melancholy is always good. But, this time around we compiled the perfect antidote. It’s not too sugary sweet, yet not sulking sad. It’s sauve and soulful. Rich with melody and lyrical epiphany. We’d like to think of Urbanette as a determined woman of stature and beauty.
Yes, it’s a female-soul compilation. Apart from the opening track by Alphabeat (we put it on there because we couldn’t resist hiding it for another month), every track on there is straight up R&B and/or soul. Even the Alphabeat track has elements of gospel-tinted yelps as an homage to early 90s’ house. At any rate, this album is a showcase or voices, perseverance, class and drama, to say the least. We hope you enjoy.
“Bang Bang” is Melanie Fiona’s second overseas single. It is supposed to replace the tawdry “It Kills Me” and is much better. The video is blah, but with this download age we are going to stop asking for more. The Bridge is filled with more surprises, though. She’s probably saving “Monday Morning” for last.
Yes, it’s true. The soundtrack for the second Sex & The City movie is going to have more surprises that its predecessor. Liza Minnelli is allegedly covering “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” by Beyonce. We don’t know how this will go but we feel it will fall along the lines of Shirley Bassey covering “Get This Party Started” by P!nk. Staying true to the song but with a more burlesque beat and some old-school glamor and passion. Queens heads are popping everywhere!
The fragrances keep coming and coming. We had heard that her scents are actually quite nice, but never got around to smelling them. We are too busy looking for Forever. Still, it’d be nice if she put the perfumes on the back-burner and started readying up that long-awaited pop album of hers.
Our latest MySpace discovery is Carmen Reece. Unlike the usual alterna-electro that we find there, she is a full-on chanteuse of diva aspirations. She cites her influences from Toni Braxton to Michael Bolton. We’ll let her explain:
This song from Swedish pop sensation Agnes is big here in Europe. It’s everywhere. But, not to sure if the sound will translate well across the atlantic. It’s a good song with great vocals. But, that doesn’t mean it’ll be a hit over the Atlantic.
She used to live in Star Motel and never had a slice of New York pizza? What a liar!
