“I Am” starts off a bit like “Everything” but ends up being a meddling R&B template. It’s not that special, to say the truth. Mary J. Blige has been struggling recently to produce a hit. With three singles out ahead of the release of her new album Stronger, she should have garnered a hit or two. But, she hasn’t and this doesn’t look like it will go anywhere. Mary needs to stay away from mainstream hits and concentrate on making big perseverance number a la “No More Drama.” Her sound was so fresh, now if it wasn’t for the voice it could come from anyone. “The One” was plain awful, and having Drake on it was pathetic.
“I Am” is the best of the three, I hope it fairs well, even though it’s not likely.
