Maybe it’s because Boyzone released their first video without Stephen Gately? or perhaps because we are listening to some legendary drab? But, it had been scientifically proven – the third Monday of the year is called Blue Monday. Researchers in a Cardiff university is Wales came up with an equation that proves that. So, if you’re down, don’t worry about it, you’re just rolling with the times. Click here for more information.

Legendary: “Under The Weather” by KT Tunstall

1

Eye To The Telescope catapulted KT Tunstall into the limelight with such hits as “Black Horse And The Cherry Tree” and “Suddenly I See,” but another single that didn’t get the kudos it deserved is “Under The Weather.” Perhaps because it’s a slow folk number that doesn’t beg for attention, but it surely is a highlight and somewhat of a forgotten gem.

Janet Jackson graces Gotham magazine cover

Janet Jackson’s on the wedding issue of Gotham magazine, which primarily targets New York’s most affluent residents and visitors. She promoting the sequel to Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married? unenthusiastically titled Why Did I Get Married, Too? and a supposed “new album.” By that they means the hodgepodge of a greatest hits collection with a freebie tacked to it. We  hope that Janet gets to her senses soon and makes sure that 2010 is a year for new material.

Of the music, she says: ““It’s going to be a little different. The writing [on the album] is about life experiences. There’s a part of me that’s craving escapism, which is a sense of wanting to keep moving on with my work but also of coming to terms with reality. So I think it will be upbeat and light.””

Premiere: Video: “Gave It All Away” by Boyzone

1

This has got to be one of the saddest videos we have seen in a while. The new single from boyband Boyzone contains the last vocals from band member Stephen Gately who passed away last year. The video is an ode to him and his vocals, which have become ubiquitous with the Boyzone sound as it is the most unique and astute voice. We wonder what the rest of Boyzone will do now.

Florence + The Machine finally hit top spot on album chart

Florence + The Machine have been the it-band of the last year. They debuted at #2 last year on the charts and were then kept off by Michael Jackson’s This Is It. But, they got their justice in 2010. This week their impressive debut album Lungs has managed to scoff off all the competition and land at #1. They deserve every bit of it.  Click below for the top 10 run-down.

Just when you thought he had disappeared into vinyl, spoken word great Gil Scott-Heron comes out of hibernation to usher in the new decade with some of his wise wise wisdom. The beat sounds like mid-90s’ trip hop reminiscent of Massive Attack’s heyday. The song breaks into straight-up spoken word towards the end. After a 16-year hiatus, Gil Scott-Heron is back with a new disc titled I’m New Here set to be released on 8th of February 2010.

Christina Aguilera’s “Bionic” drops in April

1

Bionic, Christina Aguilera’s fourth full-length studio album of original material, was slated for a first quater release in 2010. Now, it’s in the beginning of the second quarter to make room for Xtina to put the finishing touches to her movie Burlesque with Cher. The movie looks promising, but the album sounds like it could be the opener of the decade for pop music. Let’s hope there are no delays and the single surfaces real soon with a well-made video.
