In defense of Mariah Carey’s “Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel”

“This is for real, for real, for real. Oprah Winfrey-full segment, for real, for real. No fooling. I won’t beat around the bush here: I adore Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, Mariah Carey’s latest, less-than-feted disc. (I’m not sure how many times I’ve listened to it, but it’s probably somewhere close to 50 or 60 plays.)
Songwriting partners Tricky Stewart and The-Dream (who put out an album of his own last year that was totally unfuckwithable), the under-heralded team that produced most of Angel, are geniuses, and deserve at least a couple parades in their honor. And anybody who contests – or has dismissed Angel and is all psyched up about forthcoming, rapper-heavy remix album Angels Advocate – that can fuck right off, or at least get up out my face. You’re probably part of why Carey’s planned Minneapolis concert – it was supposed to go down on this week – got canceled. (Okay, that’s a stretch. But a promoter could not be found for a fucking Mariah Carey concert? Seriously? This world is fucked up.)
The general lack of commercial and critical enthusiasm for Angel was disheartening, as if calculated to offer proof positive that if a songbird of a not-quite-cougar vintage wants to move units, she has no choice but to stock her album with ring-tone-ready club bangers, bow-throwing rappers, and gratuitous sexual innuendo.

Lady GaGa on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine!

3

GaGamania abound. Lady GaGa has graced yet another big-name magazine. This time it’s sex zine Cosmopolitan. She’s wearing what looks like a sheer bikini and looks stunning as usual. When better quality images surface we will put them up.

Sugababes’ advert for “Sweet 7″

They are swinging it so you would digest the Sugabaes as the legitimate band when all the original band members are no longer there. Honestly, all respect we had for Sugababes from their first pop-woozy album has diminished, and that was a lot. Even with the Supremes one stuck around throughout the whole thing. With Destiny’s Child it was two.

Santigold readies up next album

Santigold (formerly Santogold but changed it to avoid being mistaken for someone irrelevant) is back. She is doing a bunch of gigs here and there and was last spotted (above) in New York City playing live. She’s working and collaborating with other others a lot including Nas and Christina Aguilera. But, now she has some new material to show and we can’t wait for it!

Sade sells half a million in first week!

Legend and chill chanteuse Sade and her band have managed to defy both the recession and the piracy problem by selling half a million records in the US in the first week of their release of Soldier Of Love. the album comes after an approximate decade’s hiatus and delivers exactly what the fans have known their brand of music to be. It, of course, lands at #1 this week.

Alana Davis gave birth!

We’ve been waiting for a long while since Alana Davis last released an album. Surrender Dorothy came a couple of years ago to great critical acclaim and we haven’t heard from her since. Last we knew, she had announced on MySpace that she is going to Jamaica and then completely disappeared. We thought it was too much ganja or she totally gave up of the music business. But a little independent research found out that the “Crazy” singer got pregnant and gave birth. How adorable is the above picture?

Lady GaGa has a vagina!

1

The internet’s afloat with all these images of GaGa where she apparently had a slip-vage during her performance at the Brit Awards 2010. After months of speculation of whether GaGa is a man or not, which we didn’t buy into but thought she borrowed heavily from drag culture. She’s a drag-impersonator. Yes, we coined it and we are sticking by it. Click here for a lesson in anatomy.

Official cover for Tracey Thorn’s new album “Love And Its Opposite”

Former Everything But The Girl front woman is already on her third album. This one is called Love And Its Opposite and it will be released May 17th, 2010. The artwork is just splendid. According to its Wiki page: “Love And Its Opposite was recorded in Berlin and London, and features guest contributions from Hot Chip’s Al Doyle, The Invisible’s Leo Taylor, Swedish singer-songwriter Jens Lekman, Nashville musician Cortney Tidwell and Los Valentinos’ guitarist Jono. It contains eight original songs and two cover versions: Lee Hazlewood’s “Come on Home to Me” (a duet with Jens Lekman) and “You Are a Lover” by The Unbending Trees (with whom Thorn collaborated in 2008) The album’s opening track, “Oh, the Divorces!”, was made available as a free digital download on 17 February 2010, along with the confirmation of the album’s track list.” Click below for the complete track listing.
