Video Premiere: “Been A Bad Girl” by Khia

1

The queen of nasty is back with this new video. The song title is a given and it seems the the fiercely independent artist will not budge even if she hadn’t had a hit since “My Neck, My Back” and her reality show never got picked up but instead is all over YouTube making a laughing stock out of her. This is from the 2010 album Motor Mouf A.K.A. Khia Shamone.

Don’t Quote Me, Vol. 370

“The magic of travel is that you leave your home secure in your own knowledge and identity, but as you travel the world in all its richness intervenes, you meet people you could not invent, you see scenes you could never imagine. Your own world, which was so large as to consume your whole life. Becomes smaller and smaller until it is only one tiny dot in space and time. You return a different person. Many people don’t want to be travelers. They would rather be tourists. Flitting over the surface of other people’s lives while never really leaving their own. They try to bring their world with them, whether they go or try and recreate the world they left, they do not want to risk the security of their own understanding and see how small and limited their experiences really are. If we don’t offer ourselves to the world our senses dull. Our world becomes small and we lose our sense of wonder. Our eyes don’t lift to the horizon, we don’t hear the sounds around us, the edge is off our experience and we pass our days in a routine that is both comfortable and limiting. We wake up one day and find that we have lost our dreams in order to protect our days. Travel no matter how humble will etch new elements into your character. you will know the cutting moments of life where fear meets adventure and loneliness meets exhilaration. You will know what it means to push forward when you want to turn back. And when you have tragedies or great changes in your life you will understand that there are a thousand, a million ways to live an that your life will go onto something new and different and every bit as worthy as the life you are leaving behind.”

Legendary: “Pick Yer Nose” by Ani DiFranco

This is back when Ani DiFranco was amidst her anti-establishment demeanor. With rootsy folk strumming and a punk attitude, DiFranco shaped a generation with loyal fans. She continues to amuse, but those days are golden days of revolutionary music and a beautiful underground movement in music. Beautiful little track from one of her starkest albums Puddle Dive.

We’ve been holding of this news (mainly because we were counting lemurs in the jungle of Madagascar) but also because we wanted to do some research on it. But, this picture of Mariah Carey with studio-guru Bryan-Michael Cox certifies all the claims that MC is back in the studio with a bunch of producers including Jermaine Dupri and working on some really new and sexy material. After being criticized for her last album and tour Mariah is ready to bring on another emancipation to put every little starlet back in her place (including Madonna). We are excited for this news as new material from MC is guaranteed to be good material. At any rate, let’s hope it’s more of the good stuff and click below of her video in the studio with JD.

Grace Jones says Lady Gaga is copying her!

9

Grace Jones flatly refused an offer to work with the Gaga, according to her. She said: “I said no. I’d just prefer to work with someone who is more original and someone who is not copying me, actually.”

Jokes aside about Grace Jones’ music career never really picking up, but shouldn’t Jones be happy that one of the world’s biggest and brightest stars right now is doing something somewhat similar to what she is doing. Lady Gaga is visually stimulating but her songs have some oomph to them, which is more than we can say for Grace Jones who spent her life being a damsel of grace, no pun intended, in vision yet never really making her mark on the dance music world.
