Introducing… Omar Afuni

Omar Afuni is a new struggling artist making his way through the muddle of cover versions on YouTube. However, unlike the rest, Omar Afuni is quickly rising to become a formidable internet personality with a strong voice and an impressive collection of cover versions. But, it doesn’t stop at that. Afuni has also released a debut single by the title of “Ressurect Me,” which is available as a guilt-free download on his official website. Cyndi Lauper’s album “Memphis Blues” leaks!

It is out and about and this is what we had to say about it before: “Cyndi Lauper is really into making concept album. First she did the covers album At Last, then the acoustic folksy album The Body Acoustic, then we got the gay-dance themed Bring Ya To The Brink and now she has opted for a full-out blues album titled Memphis Blues. This is the cover to the new album and we all remember when she covered Roy Orbison’s “I Drove All Night.” So, this is one to look forward to.” And we are sticking to it!

Legendary: “Get Along With You” by Kelis

1

We fell in love with Kelis at her second single “Good Stuff” – a prime example that a beat doesn’t have to be overwhelming for the song to be strong. It was the harbinger for tracks like Britney Spears’ “Boys.”  But the track that followed it (this one) was more of a statement. Stark, naked and beautiful relying heavily on Kelis’s vocal ability and dirty beat from the Neptunes.

Will Young enters the Billboard Charts!

2

Using “Leave Right Now” as a closer to American Idol’s worse season number 9 proved somewhat fruitful for Will Young. His made-for-US album of the same title has entered the Heatseekers chart and the single sits at number 81. Well, he didn’t exactly break the US market but he managed to make a little dent, although the song deserves much more than #81!

SiA Furler to write a song for Britney Spears!

4

SiA’s at it again! She has written songs for Christina Aguilera and Will Young, now that word is allegedly out that SiA is in the works to pen a ballad for none other than Britney Spears. Yes, she has gone that far! This is according to our friend-blog WotYouGot. Here’s what SiA has to say about songwriting: “People call me for the ballads. Apparently that’s where I’ve been pigeonholed. But it’s really interesting and really fun. It’s my favourite part of the job, writing. Especially with other people.” And we don’t get why, because if you have heard that tracks on her new album We Are Born, you would know that she is a bonafide uptempo songwriter, too.

Brandy allegedly signs with Island Def Jam

2

Brandy’s allegedly joined Rihanna and Kanye West on the Def Jam label some unknown sources confirm. This is good news as we need some new beats from Brandy and not Bran’Nu. The album is set to capitalize on the success of her reality show A Family Business: Brandy & Ray-J, which has been commissioned for another season on VH1. Let’s hope we have something up her sleeve.

Kelis performs “4th Of July” on Jay Leno

This is just a lovely track off of Kelis’s Fleshtone album. We love the entire album and we couldn’t stop listening to it. She really went and reupholstered her career after leaving Nas and having a child. She was heading into oblivion for a minute there and rerouted in dance greatness.

Melanie B interview on the George Lopez show

Melanie B is looking more and more like Downtown Julie Brown everyday. And, to top it off, now she’s a presenter. She has so many projects up her sleeve now including reality shows Dance Your Ass Off and Mel B: It’s A Scary World. Plus, the musical for the Spice Girls songs.
