Lira has just tweeted that her new single from her fourth full-length album is going to be titled “Phakade.” Sony Music Africa is readying it up. Let’s hope that it gets a great video treatment, which is what we are used to from our South African export. For those of you who do not know this great chanteuse, she is probably one of the greatest vocalists of our time and has a brand of music that will put you in a lovely mood instantly. Last April we stopped by South Africa on our way to Zambia only to find out that her live CD/DVD was sold out from all stores. It’s been a while since we heard of a music release that has been sold out in its physical form. Check her out, you won’t be disappointed. Also, we need some Sesotho translators to tell us what the title means.

Don’t Quote Me, Vol. 488
Video Premiere: “Ms. Emotional” by Natasha Hamilton
You might remember this missy from a girl band called Atomic Kitten back in the British day. She has been MIA for a while now, but she’s back with this track that is neither here nor there. We are almost 100% sure this won’t dent the charts at all. Generic ballad at a times when great ballads don’t make it.

1Shangela does stand-up as DJ Pierce!
We have to say that we once had a pizza after some clubbing with the one and only Shangela in West Hollywood and we were floored laughing so hard. Love.

Mary J. Blige working on a new album!

Jazmine Sullivan ends music career!
We’ll be the first to tell you that we weren’t feeling Jazmine Sullivan‘s sophomore album Love Me Back, but that is not ground for retirement. Stay, drop Missy Elliott and do a jazz standards album and all will be fine Ms. Sullivan.
Video Premiere: “Quiet Nice People” by Ida Maria
Not big fans of Ida Maria, mostly because we think she verges on noise more than music. But her song “Keep Me Warm” is beautiful tune ad if this is any indication to what direction she is heading to on her new album Katla then it’s all good.
Lady Gaga’s big announcement…
5This is day-old news now and it’s been everywhere, but we have to post it. So, the big announcement from Lady Gaga on NYE was that her new single is coming out in February 13th, 2011 and is titled “Born This Way,” which was highly-touted by Elton John to be a big gay anthem. The album of the same name, Born This Way, will be out on May 23rd, 2011. This gap between single and album is very big, but we expect some leaks along the way. Exciting.
