1. Greetings from KuwaitLoft965.com picked “Riverside” as a “Sexy Track” of 2011! How do you feel about that and what do you think this year holds for you?

I’m happy to hear this though I never thought that “Riverside” was sexy but maybe something is happening in that song that I’m not quite aware of. I hope this year will hold some new music. I’m on tour at the moment but am anyway trying to write on some new things. Very curious about what will come out of this musically. Also because I dont have a piano with me and therefore have to find other instruments to play with. Never tried this way of working before.
2. We love “Just So.” What will be your next single?

Actually not sure. I think either “Brother Sparrow” or “On Powdered Ground”.
3. There is news on your album Philharmonics being re-released as a deluxe version. Why is that and what are you planning to include in the re-release?

The new release of the album will have some instrumental tracks on it as well as some live recordings from the concert hall in Copenhagen.
4. Your album is getting a lot of critical acclaim. How would you describe it and who were your major influences?

I’m not sure how to answer the first bit but, musically, I think I have been influenced by the music of my childhood which was for the most part the music of Jan Johansson and the childrens songs of Bela Bartok, both piano music my mother played. I still like to listen to this music and even recreate some of the moods I remember from this in my own music.

5. We love quotes, what is your favorite quote or motto?
“There’s cracks in everything that’s why there’s light.”

Etta Smith adds another dimension to her songs by accompanying them with her piano playing talents. She’s been singing from a very early age & listening to a variety of music, including the inspiring northern soul singers from her dad’s collection of records, not to mention the 70’s disco tapes her mam would play in the car on the way to school.

In the past year or so however, she decided to start writing songs using her piano in the dining room and then went on to perform at small local gigs, which she found thoroughly enjoyable.
