Azerbaijan wins Eurovision Song Contest!

3

“Azerbaijan have beaten the much-hyped Irish twins and 23 other finalists to secure their country’s first-ever win in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Nigar Jamal and Eldar Gasimov, who go by the name Ell/Nikki, won 220 points for their classic pop ballad with a catchy refrain, Running Scared, meaning next year’s songfest will be hosted in Baku.

Second place went to Italy and Sweden finished third.

“I’m the happiest man in the world right now,” Gasimov shouted to the crowd of 36,000 who packed the Fortuna Duesseldorf Arena to watch the show.

He was handed the trophy by Germany’s Lena Meyer-Landruth, who had sought to make history by defending her title for a second consecutive year in a row.”

Again: Music For May: Xylemony

6

In true May compilation fashion, we have opted for a more organic, laid-back folk-tinged feel on this one. This ones for the rest before the summer hoopla. It’s the kind of music we like to listen to on our in days. There undiscovered gems in there, oldies and some tracks that will knock you off your feet, lofties. This is 100% percent organic. Xylemony comes from the merger of “Xylem” and “Testimony” with context to personal growth and self-nurture, in case you didn’t know.

Sexy Track: “Put Your Hands Up” by Nerina Pallot

1

Never underestimate a good morning number. Nerina Pallot is no stranger to pretty tunes, but this track is a little on the upbeat side. It’s a testament to just surrendering at times. Her vocals follow perfectly and the chorus catches you by surprise. It’s the kind of track that might go by unnoticed at first but you’ll soon notice you can’t stop humming the chorus. “Put Your Hands Up” is the lead single to the album Year Of The Wolf and if it is a taste of what is to come then we surely have a great album.

Don’t Quote Me, Vol. 532

1

“I don’t sleep very well when i travel. and as a result, i tend to be awake in cities when everyone else is asleep. and that’s where this album comes from. it was primarily written late at night in cities when i felt like i was the only person awake (or alive). being the only person awake (or alive) in an empty city is strange and disconcerting, but it’s also comforting. the streets are empty and quiet. the streetlights are all on but are only illuminating emptiness. i don’t know if any of this will make sense to anyone listening to the album, but for me ‘destroyed’ is an album that makes the most sense late at night in an empty city when everyone else has gone to sleep. and, as always, i presumptuously ask that you listen to the album in its entirety at least once, as it was put together as a, hopefully, cohesive body of work, and i believe that it makes the most sense when listened to from start to finish. a soundtrack for empty cities at 2 a.m, at least that’s how i hear it. and, as always, thank you for listening. and hopefully see you soon.”

First Listen: “Let’s Get Back Together” by Matti Roots

1

This brand of happy soul is one of the most underrated genres of our time. Only a few have managed to capture it, but then were warded off to obscurity, like Nikka Costa and Remy Shand. But, it is alive in all those struggling artists who are not afraid to incorporate “pretty” into thier melodies. Such is the case with Matti Roots.

Exclusive: Lira to release “When I Dance” as second single!

1

Lira’s fourth album Return To Love delivers on so many levels. The first single is one of our favorite tracks of the season. After “Phakade” will come “When I Dance.” It’s a lovely uptempo track that ushers in summer moods. We say exclusive because she tweeted us directly. We hope there’s a great breezy video to match.

Mariah Carey to release an album in 2011

2

This could be one of the greatest news pieces of the year. Mariah Carey is said to have already started working on her new album following her delivery of twins – Monroe and Moroccan. The album is said to be reflective of the journey she has been through and, according to her husband Nick Cannon, it’s set to drop sometime this year. Good news.
