Oh Land’s trying to shake up the recording academy. The Singer/songwriter recently participated in an installment of 5 Questions With… at The Recording Academy New York Chapter office. Introducing… Amina Bryant
1Amina Bryant got us from first listen. Not only because her new single sounds like one of Rihanna’s best moments, but also because she has the voice and musical ear to back it up. We hope to hear from her a lot this year. Having recently leapt into the BBC 1Xtra Playlist, exciting new singer/songwriter Amina Bryant is set to release her self-penned debut single ‘Jimmy’ on 7th March 2011.Working with her long time producer WhiZz K!D, ‘Jimmy’ is an ode to Motown’s Martha and the Vandellas 1967 hit ‘Jimmy Mack’. An undoubtedly infectious pop delight, on ‘Jimmy’, Amina delivers a punchy, while sweetly melodious ultimatum to a lackluster lover.
South London born Amina Bryant has been writing and recording from a tender age, coming from a musical family of Jamaican origin, her influences stretch from Motown and Reggae to R ’n’B and Pop. Working as a completely independent artist, Amina spent her teens finding her musical footings, with short spells in emerging girl groups, before deciding to go it alone and hone her craft. A committed songwriter and hands on recording artist Amina’s passion for music is evident in all her endeavors, from popular YouTube covers of current artists, through to the precision of her original song compositions.. Her playful melody driven music, coupled with candid, relatable lyrics, give Amina a universally appealing sound.
Keren Ann performs “Suga Mama” live!
2This is a shaky shaky song and the message is cute. No wonder it’s the next single off Keren Ann’s haunting 101.
More details on Tori Amos’s new album “Night Of Hunters!”
3Okay, we just received a press release about the new Tori Amos album Night Of Huntersand we don’t feel like regurgitating it. So, we will post it verbatim. Here:
| “With more than 12 million albums sold and multiple Grammy nominations, Tori Amos is one of the most successful and influential artists of her generation. A pioneer across multiple platforms, she was the first major-label artist to offer a single for download, has had her songs turned into graphic novels, and has produced pioneering videos throughout her career. She is renowned for her passionate and broad fan-base, her critically and commercially successful tours, and her ever-evolving live show.
The latest addition to Amos’s series of ground-breaking recordings, Night of Hunters, is her twelfth studio album and her first for Deutsche Grammophon. This 21st-century song cycle takes its inspiration from classical pieces spanning the last 400 years, by composers ranging from Bach and Schubert to Granados and Satie, and marks the return of Amos’s piano to centre stage. It is also her first studio album exclusively involving acoustic instruments. The songs are arranged for string quartet and flute, oboe, English horn, clarinet, bassoon and contrabassoon in various formations. For the recording Amos has put together an ensemble of outstanding performers from the classical world, including the award-winning young Polish string quartet Apollon Musagète and Berlin Philharmonic principal clarinettist Andreas Ottensamer.
With Night of Hunters, which she wrote and produced, Amos carries on the tradition of variations on a theme to create a bold new work while paying tribute to the mastery of the original compositions. In her own words: “I have used the structure of a classical song cycle to tell an ongoing, modern story. The protagonist is a woman who finds herself in the dying embers of a relationship. In the course of one night she goes through an initiation of sorts that leads her to reinvent herself, allowing the listener to follow her on a journey to explore complex musical and emotional subject matter. One of the main themes explored on this album is the hunter and the hunted and how both exist within us.” |
Wynter Gordon performs “Buy Me Live” acoustic and live!
2Wynter Gordon is a certified pop star. If there is any pop justice she should be up there by the end of the year. This is a great dance song, but it’s very nice too with just guitar and vocals. Continue reading

2Video Premiere: “Foreign Language” by Flight Facilities
1How come none of the other blogs caught this, one of the best songs of the year got the video treatment and only a few people viewed it! This is a grower as we said before, the album must be stellar! Sydney duo Flight Facilities have their brand new single “Foreign Language feat. Jess” out now on iTunes. Flight Facilities very first solo track “Crave You” took everyone by surprise; 2 Sydney DJ / producers that cut their teeth with cult party remixes, created what became arguably the best pop track of 2010 and we think it’s pretty safe to say that “Foreign Language feat. Jess” has all the right ingredients for another timeless summer anthem.

1Geri Halliwell almost ready to release new album!
1The wait is almost over. The Ginger one is back to amuse us with her fourth album and we have to admit – we love us some Geri Halliwell albums. We secretly feel she was the driving force behind the Spice Girls (although we love all the girls). This time around Geri is doing it for the sake of doing it not to prove a point like on the lackluster Passion. So, the album’s almost finished she has said publicly. Let’s hope the album spawns hits like “Bag It Up” and “Ride It.”

Sexy Track: “Do You Remember” by Ane Brun
3Everyone knows Norway’s Ane Brun can bring a melancholy winter like no one can. She can bring up down from the highest tops, just listen to any of her album cuts and you will want to slit something. Some downer songs are lovely, but Ane Brun has decided to take her artistic vision to a new level and explore some more upbeat rhythms. on “Do You Remember” Ane Brun divorces sadness in a quest for some foot-tapping goodness. Of course, the biggest draw has stayed the same – that layered voice. The vocals on this track make the song. The beats are nothing new, but the chorus will take you to another level. A true ode to nostalgia dressed as a clapping song. This is not just a great track, but proof that great artists don’t falter by exploring new genres.
