JoJo better hurry up with this third album that’s taking ages to drop.
We ♥ Lana Del Rey
4Soko tweeted her disapproval of a singer named Lana Del Rey on twitter and we couldn’t help but YouTube her. What we found is an unsurpassed beauty with great pipes and haunting lyrics administrated with lazy vocals. A potent and somewhat new formula for her kind a music – a fusion between old-hollywood glamor with a strong jazz sensibility. After listening to “Yayo” and “Video Games” we have fallen in love with this lovely singer. She carries herself with poise and is not afraid to challenge the ideals of vocal rules with her sound. Genre cross-breads rarely sound so scrumptious and when they do they break new ground in the pop world, like what Amy Winehouse did. We look forward to hearing from Lizzy Grant, her real name.

1Sexy Track: “I Feel Love” by Kim Wayman
1There are millions of cover versions, but very few strike a chord with the listener. Here, Kim Wayman, Telepopmusik featured artist and collaborator and one of the best artists to look out for in 2011, takes this Donna Summer disco classic to a whole different level. Kim Wayman teamed up with post-nightlife compilers Unclubbed to recreate one of the sexiest songs on earth. She turned an MDMA anthem into a ethereal sl0w-mo number that will leave you gasping for a breath should you sing along. A beautiful rendition of a great song.

1Kylie Minogue performs “All The Lovers” on X-Factor Ukraine!
1It is about time that she retired this song from promo appearances. We are still bitter that she didn’t release “Too Much” as a single, we don’t know if we can recover from all the bad single choices Kylie has made across her career. But, we still love her to death.

Rufus Wainwright & Sean Lennon cover Madonna’s “Material Girl” at #OccupyWallStreet
2It might seem dichotomous and down-right wrong to sing this song at the Wall Street protests, but we think they are either parodying it or just using some playful irony. They are certainly not cheering about “livin’ in a material world.” In any case, the spirit of the protesters are high and we hope reform comes out of this. This system the world lives in is stale and backwards. No one is benefitting except the greedy. It’s about time socialism wasn’t thought of as a dirty word. As long as one person lives in poverty, we all live in poverty.
Mazzy Star return after 15 year hiatus!
2The 90s’ folk-rock band that offset the grunge movement with their dreamy and bluesy brand of alternative, Mazzy Star, are back after calling it quits 15 years ago. The band, whose most famous hit song is “Fade Into You,” are putting the final touches to their new project. On October 12, 2011, Hope Sandoval’s official website confirmed the duo would release their first new material in fifteen years later that same month. The double A-sided single, “Common Burn”/”Lay Myself Down”, will be released digitally on October 31, 2011, while a limited edition color vinyl will be released on November 8, 2011. Their fourth studio album is expected to follow in early 2012. Click below to listen to a preview of their new song “Common Burn.”
Video Premiere: “Movement” by Katy B
1This has a nice groove to it. “Give me movement, I need some kind of improvement.” This needed a little bit of a stronger beat, but it’s not bad at all.
Kate Havnevik announces new album “You,” releases official cover art!
1For those of you taken aback by the glory of Melankton, we have great news for you. After giving us a luscious taster with “Show Me Love,” Kate Havnevik is back with a new album after a hiatus titled You. The album is available for purchase on Kate’s official website. Click here.
Amazing: Bobby McFerrin captures human connectivity to music!
1Bobby McFerrin demonstrates the power of the pentatonic scale, using audience participation, at the event “Notes & Neurons: In Search of the Common Chorus”, from the 2009 World Science Festival, June 12, 2009. This is a powerful video that showcases the connectivity of the human brain to melody and sound. It also takes music history down to its roots and explains the universality of music.
Adele wins two Q Awards!
1She might not have picked up the Mercury Prize Award for her sophomore album 21, but she won not one but two Q magazine awards for her efforts. Adele’s latest album has been certified platinum 10 times in the UK. It comes as no surprise that it would get that kind of reception. It seems the throat problems that she is having with her health recently stopped her from attending the event. We hope she is OK.
Must-Watch: Video: “My I.Q.” by Ani DiFranco
4We grew up listening to this music and it still rings true to us. Music is great, but it’s greater when you have something to say. Ani DiFranco always has something to say. This is a great kinetic typography adaptation of the spoken word track from the monumental album Puddle Dive that was the voice of a generation. Listen without prejudice.
