Exclusive: 5 Questions With Loft965.com: Ane Brun

3

1. Greetings from Kuwait! Loft965.com picked your album It All Starts With One as an “Album to look forward to in 2011.” How do you feel about that and what do you think this year holds for you?

I’m very proud and happy to hear that! I hope that as many people as possible will hear this album, because I’m very happy with it. I’m going to do my best to spread my music around the world.

2. The first single “Do You Remember?” is a different sound from your other singles. What inspired this direction and what’s behind the song?

The demo for this song is me playing a bass line on one string of a guitar. It’s a kind of melancholic love folk song, and this rhythm was already there in the bass line. But we decided to make it bigger, and we invited 3 drummers to the studio. I felt like making a production where you just can’t stand still. I hope everyone wants to move to it.

3. You recently toured with Ani DiFranco, whom we love here at Loft965.com, how did you find the experience and should we look forward to more collaborations in the future?

Ani DiFranco is a very lovely woman, and I’m a big fan of hers. She was my main inspiration when I first started playing guitar 12 years ago. I loved doing the gigs with her, and playing for her audience, and I hope that I can do it again in the future.

4. What will be the next single from It All Starts With One and why did you choose it?

We chose “Worship” as the next single from the album. I love José Gonzales’ voice and I love this recording. It’s a bit hypnotizing.

5. We love quotes, what is your favorite quote or motto?

“It always seems impossible until it’s done.”

― Nelson Mandela

Sexy Track: “What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger)” by Kelly Clarkson

1

We have to admit that we are not the biggest fans of Miss Kelly Clarkson, but throughout her career there have been standout records that we just couldn’t ignore like the Christina Aguilera-penned “Miss Independent” and the megahit “Since U Been Gone.” But with the new album building buzz and a little advice from our friend Jon Ali, we found ourselves dying for this track, which seems to be the next single.

“What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger)” is a huge rock number with poignant lyrics and high energy. Kelly Clarkson has mustered up another big hit with the potential to rule the airwaves for months to come. This so is a no-qualms ode to perseverance. The melody is that of a well-constructed rock anthem with enough edge to make you scream inside your car even if someone is watching, which is what happened to us today on the way to work. That’s why it’s sitting atop our chart this week!

Video Premiere: “Painted Love” by Air

1

The uploader has made this video not available in my country because apparently they are so eager to break the Kuwaiti market when they get to it, or they just lump up everyone not from where they are or not a huge market for western music like the US and the UK. Nonetheless, we love the band, so we want to give the chance to some of our international readers to see it. Tell us how it goes.

Video Premiere: “Wild Man” by Kate Bush

50 Words For Snow is on our desks, yet it’s so hard to digest when it has 13-minute tracks on there. Although we are avid fans for Kate Bush, we had hope for much more vocals and less spoken word. But, “Wild Man” is definitely the highlight of this 7-track album. Doesn’t that make it an EP?

Don’t Quote Me, Vol. 586

1

“As a creative person, in all the different things that I’ve done or ways that I’ve found to express myself, I’ve consistently come up against resistance in certain areas. I think that the world is not comfortable with female sexuality. It’s always coming from a male point of view, and a woman is being objectified by a man — and even women are comfortable with that. But when a woman does it, ironically, women are uncomfortable with it. I think a lot of that has to do with conditioning.”

- Madonna

Mariah Carey talks about her babies, Christmas, John Legend, Justin Bieber

So it seems Merry Christmas II You is getting a deluxe version with the Justin Bieber and John Legend duets on it. Not bad for the season, but we’d like a non-seasonal Mariah album real soon. We are glad she is releasing a video soon, but it’s probably not going to be fantastical. Probably just Mariah and John Legend sitting around the Christmas tree (or as we call it – the Pagan tree). What festive surprise does she have for us?
