Mediocre really. We are surprised she didn’t do a little Whitney tribute thrown in there. Had it not been for Whitney none of these female vocalists would be here.

Adele has already four of the categories she has been nominated for in the Grammy Awards Show tonight. The singer was nominated in six categories and she is looking like she will win most! The new album 21 is definitely going to get a huge surge in sales after this.

Leila has already released three albums, a trilogy if you will. In 2009 she started to write a body of work that felt different. Maybe it was being sober, but this one seemed to be about being more direct. Leila first met Mt. Sims at a fancy dress party way back in 2006. Leila went as Leila. Mt. Sims dressed as a Computer Processing Unit fashioned from a cardboard box with strategically placed slits. She had admired his music since his work on Gigolo Records, she was most happy when he introduced himself and said he was a fan.

Fast-Forward to 2009, Leila decided the man who had dressed as a C.P.U was the perfect voice for this new body of work.‘In Consideration’ was made within two hours of him arriving at her home studio, when it comes to noise she doesn’t like to waste any time. Then came an intense period of sonic interactions. ‘Welcome To Your Life’ was particularly fun in it’s inception. Backing track pretty complete, as Leila watched Countdown Mt. Sims casually wrote a song… Leila liked it a lot. Two visits and some acapella posting via Dropbox later ((both “Anyway” and “U&I” were done within 30 minutes of Leila receiving the acapellas), The album was complete. Leila does enjoy watching the TV a lot but is also rather prolific. Then she just needed to stitch these and some carefully chosen instrumentals from her arsenal to complete this new story.

One of the most anticipated releases from 2012′s rising star, Emeli Sande, has leaked onto the internet a few days before its official release date. The highly-touted new singer, who is going to join the ranks of Adele, Florence + The Machine and (Ekh) Jessie J by getting the Brit newcomer award, is ready for us to digest. This Sub-pop musical band haven’t really made an impression yet. The music’s interesting and it meanders between genres. This is the latest from the band.

This song is just amazing.

Beth Jeans Houghton has a promising sound. It feels like a marriage between folk-country and a little recent Natalie Merchant thrown into it. All quirk aside, she is a singer-songwriter from Newcastle upon Tyne who plays “sweet and gentle folk music.” Beth Jeans Houghton has been described by The Guardian as looking like “Gwen Stefani with a touch of Brody Dalle”, with a sound that “is Vashti Bunyan crossed with Nico and Laura Marling”

In early 2011 Beth Jeans Houghton signed to Mute Records who announced that they will be releasing her debut long player in early 2012. The album was recorded with Ben Hillier whose previous production credits include Blur, Depeche Mode & Elbow.

According to her Facebook page, the album, “Yours Truly,Cellophane Nose”, by Beth Jeans Houghton and the Hooves of Destiny, will be released on 6 February.

While Madonna’s performance has its ups, downfalls and an “almost fall,” the real star of the Superbowl was none other than M.I.A., who shocked every conservative American parent in the bible belt by flipping her finger in the middle of her rap during Madonna’s new single “Give Me All Your Luvin’.” No word on whether it was intended, but it was fast, yet sexy. Knowing Madonna’s work ethic, it would properly piss her off had it been unannounced. You know? How dare she upstage Madge!

When your career is built on sombre music, it’s very hard to catapult your career onto worldwide attention. The first single you put out has to be relevant in sound, yet descriptive of your direction as an artist and not a fluffy number as you might run the risk of attracting the wrong audience. Very few artists have managed to capture that feeling and maintain a career in melancholy music. Think of what “Luka” did to Suzanne Vega’s career, or Tracy Chapman’s first record. Here, Lianne La Havas does that. “Forget” is a midtempo number with all the vigor of subdued melody. It’s chorus is probably one of the most heated screams of emotion you’ll hear in a while. It makes you feel like the singer is going through heaps of anguish and is having a hard time setting the past aside. It’s a strong track that is packed with deep sentiment.
