Finally, some songs from the golden era of Bjork. Do you think she will ever go back to making songs that are actually catchy?
Finally, some songs from the golden era of Bjork. Do you think she will ever go back to making songs that are actually catchy?
Bjork is taking time out to ensure every fan within New York City limits has the chance to see her this year. The Icelandic diva is ready to performs a set of concerts in the heart of New York in promotion of her new album Biophilia. The tickets and details are available here.
Did we get another Bjork video first again? Lovely. This is yet another track from Bjork’s new album Biophilia. A beautiful little number that doesn’t stray too far away from post-Vespertine Bjork. Still, it needs a little oomph to fulfill our desires. The video is surprisingly a live set directed by thirtytwo. You like?
You know we are on a covers binge, but this one takes the cake and the whipped cream on top. Leave it to an Icelandic chanteuse to take one of the biggest songs in pop history and turn it into a flowing and mellow number that brings up a darker side of the lyrics. Lay Low, turned this Dolly Parton classic into a sombre multi-layered number without making the lyrics schmaltzy. She grew up singing Dolly Parton tracks, so she is no stranger to the country singer’s melodic prowess. The track is handled with great consideration to the concept at hand, but a 21st century update is mandatory. And that is what it got. A must-listen to all cover version lovers.
1. Greetings from Kuwait! Loft965.com picked “Pop Song” as a “Sexy Track” of 2011! How do you feel about that and what do you think the rest of the year holds for you?
I am happy to hear that, thank you. I have to say I didn’t realize it was such a sexy song, I thought it was just honest. I think I will be busy writing and recording my third album for the rest of the year. I will be releasing it in 2012.
2. We are excited about the new album. What will it be called?
I am still writing songs for the album so I haven’t decided on a name for it yet. I usually don’t name my albums until all the songs are ready.
3. What musical direction are you taking for your new album?
At the moment it sounds like it’s going to be a pop album with a country and folky twist. But that could change before the album is finished.
4. Are you going on tour? What will be your next single?
I won’t be going on tour until after christmas, but I hope to travel to lots of different places to play my new songs next year. I don’t know what song will be my next single but I have two songs that are strong candidates. One about a scary house close to where I live and another about a very lucky boy.
5. We love quotes, what is your favorite quote or motto?
We have a lot of old sayings here in Iceland and some of them seem very strange, especially when they have been translated. One of my favorites is “Ég kalla nú ekki allt ömmu mína” it translates as “I don’t call just anything my grandmother .” It means I don’t get scared easily.
This is one of those goose bump-raising moments. Norwegian chanteuse covers Bjork’s “Joga” right in front of the icon in tribute. Dare we say, her vocals serve the song better. But comparison aside, this is plain lovely.
The ever-so-lovely Bjork has spoken for the merger of the beautiful and logical. In an interview with the Guardian, the Icelandic damsel said: “Well, seems like science and art were pretty much the same thing for thousands of years until the industrial revolution and the enlightenment separated them. I feel the 21st century is going to be the one where not only they can unite again but they have to …”

Way out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, between Iceland and Scotland, is a cluster of 18 small islands called the Faroe Islands. Thats where Gudrid Hansdóttir was born and raised. Her music is a Lilith Fair-worthy blend of chamber pop and perky folk-rock and the past years she´s been performing in Europe and USA.
Gudrid started singing at an early age and shared a high interest in Music. She loved going through her fathers vinyl records and she discovered great artists like Kate Bush, Dolly Parton, Jethro Tull and Jimi Hendrix. Her father was a highly skilled guitar player on the Faroes and on Gudrid´s 14 year old birthday he taught her a couple of guitar chords and she started writing songs of her own.
Formerly of GusGus, Hafdis Huld has done well as a solo artists. The Icelandic muse is already on the campaign for her third album and this is the lead single off of it. It’s kooky, as we came to expect from her, but also perfect for those crisp autumn mornings. The lyrics are simple yet striking. The arrangement is the same without straying too far away from her signature sound which is a great mixture between winter folk and playground love. This track is a breezy numbered that will leave you wanting more.
The kooky one is ready to launch her third album and this is the first single off of it. “Pop Song” is not quite a pop song, nor is it that far away from what she has delivered in the past.
Just when you thought no one can be quirkier than Bjork in Iceland, Hafdis Huld shows up. This little iceberg-folkie is loopy as hell, yet very talented and has a beautiful distinct voice. This is the first single (or buzz track) from her yet-untitled third album. Click below for the link! If anyone can get the song in mp3 format please tell us!
Who else is totally loving the @bjork album, but not liking @therealtoriamos album at all? Maybe it'll grow?—
