Typical of the American incarceration system where they don’t remedy the real problem and just throw people in and neglect them. No drug abuser deserves jail time, plain and simple. She needs a rehab and a good one at it. Prison is no answer to anything, but just psychological torture and societal negligence. We feel for Lindsay Lohan and anyone in her condition and we hope that the US and the rest of the world gets a better understanding of the prison abolition movement that is muchly needed.

Say what?! A recent New York Times interview cites Eminem admitting that he is for gay marriage. When asked: “You’ve been accused of writing gay-bashing lyrics in the past. Would you like to see gay marriage approved in Michigan, where you live?” And he replied: “I think if two people love each other, then what the hell? I think that everyone should have the chance to be equally miserable, if they want.”
After what? The violence and aggression that he and his fans showed throughout the years? Are we looking for new audiences now? So, you think gay people should be killed but also have the right to marry? Queen, please!

India.Arie took on Lady Gaga and Beyonce’s latest video “Telephone” in a recent ramble on Twitter. The neosoul singer went on a tirade on how it’s degrading and there is too much nudity. What we need to know, is what is wrong with nudity? Why is it so wrong? Not everyone has to subscribe to Arie’s religious beliefs that she sings about and annoys us with every album. Lady Gaga’s video was sucky to us, but we are not judging it from a moral persepective. Morals and art never go hand-in-hand and whoever tells you otherwise is stupid. By the way, this is the same women that worked with Akon on a remix.

Ke$ha got a little too high on the success of her one single “Tik Tok” that now she is ditching the legends. Yes, a newly surfaced track titled “Styrofoam” has Ke$ha claiming through her lyric that Britney Spears is not a real artist and that she will disappear in ten years. Yes, the women who changed the face of pop music is suddenly no longer credible enough to Ke$ha. We loved Ke$ha when that video of her covering a Radiohead song came out, but now she’s back in the dumpster (like she always looks). She needs to go back and study pop music and learn who to diss and who not to diss so early in her career. Sad day, she sounds like another one of those singers that survive on the brat demographic like Avril Lavigne.

This had to come at some point. These are the same people that wanted to ban Prince, Michael Jackson, Madonna and more. She’s not GG Allen here, but she rattled some feathers and we love it. It wasn’t that risque, it’s actually caricature-ish pop. Who can do art or speak of progress and please the conservatives these days? They honestly need to shut up and put up because this is no time to go backwards. Gaga is merely an iconoclast of the times, the wave is much bigger, sweet “midwest and under the bible belt” Sandy. Oh, and, of course it had to be on the most accurate and non-partisan network – Fox.

M.I.A. has gone out on the attack on Twitter against the New York Times to make Sri Lanka the #1 destination to visit in 2010. The New York Times releases it’s annual article on tourism for 2010 and listed Sri Lanka on the top spot. M.I.A. went on a tirade criticizing this decision and posting graphic pictures of death and torture of Tamil civilians. Click below to read the Twitter rant. We previously agreed with the Sri Lanka choice on the blog, because we remember how lovely it was, but we can understand where she is coming from. An oppressive government should not get tourist dollars without the consideration of it’s humanitarian atrocities.

Massimo Tartaglia assaults Berlusconi
This happened in Milan a little while ago while Italy’s Prime minister Berusconi was meeting and greeting his supporters. We never condone violence of any sorts, but, just as the shoe throwing incident with George W. Bush brought a certain amount of sweet justice, this one does too. Berlusconi has been known for his chauvinistic jokes, his strong anti-human rights stances, his racist comments (once directed at Obama) and his sense of supriority over the Arab world. He is also in love with Bush. A leader of the “center-right” in Italy who also happens to be embroiled in endless sex scandals and alleged ties with the mafia. Pn top of all that, he has a strong hold on the media that has given Italy low rating in the Freedom Houses indexes. We don’t sympathize with him at all, but we remain with our pacifist beliefs, even if the damage he has done to lives is way much more than two broken teeth and a fractured nose.
Today is International Human Rights Day

We woke up today to a BBM message from our best friend saying: “Today 10th of December is the International Day of Human Rights, a moment of celebration and also a day to remember that a lot of people still don’t benefit from them.”
So, this is in commemoration of the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that many countries still don’t implement and in honor of the people who still suffer from the shackles of oppression and restrain lead by tyrants be it a ruler or any individual. We feel that the world has been too lax on enforcing the declaration and backing it.
This day shall always be a reminder of everyday atrocities that go by unheard and we hope it remains until everyone has their full rights. Be it Tibet or East Timor or Zimbabwe. And for all the women in the world that suffer from an ever-looming universal culture of bigotry, misogyny and sexism. The people being trafficked or forced into labor. The people whose right to happiness is hindered by corruption. The people who have their freedoms of speech, expression and choice taken from them. And for all the minorities in oppressive countries, whether it is the touareg in the Sahara or the negrito in the Philippines or the Sami people in Norway or the black people in Europe and The Americas and all ethnic minorities. This also is a day to remember the undying hatred and demonization of all the the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people of the world. This is also for all the rationalists, non-believers and free thinkers and the everyday struggle they have to face. For everyone who has been racially profiled. Never forgetting the little people, the deaf people, albinistic people, the disabled and everyone who wasn’t mentioned for brevity’s sake.
Equality, justice and dignity are not a privilege or benefit, they are a human right for every human being. It’s a simple concept, live and let live. It’s time to speak out against bigotry and what a better time than the anniversary of the inception of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
