Lira opens up the World Cup in South Africa

11 06 2010

This was the only thing we were looking forward to about the whole opening ceremony. The performance by Johannesburg native  and personal favorite Lira. We love her and we hop she gets more exposure because she is one of the best artists in South Africa right now.

Eat da poo poo!

10 06 2010

Wow, he is very well researched! We wonder how many hours of work and experience it took for him to come up with all that. Some African conservatives are going crazy following the release of the Malawi couple unjustly jailed for being gay. Now, leave it to the perverted conservatives to equate a simple matter of love to coprophilia. This is coming from Uganda. Doesn’t Uganda have other issues to discuss. Sitting around talking about fisting is fun, but how about the country’s record of human rights abuses or corruption?

They had to pick Shakira to represent Africa? Why? is Africa short of beautiful women with great voices? Lira should have done this and if she doesn’t open the games then this is just an African event by name, at least for us music fans who don’t give two shits about football.

Malawi frees jailed gay couple!

30 05 2010

Malawi’s president, Bingu wa Mutharika, on Saturday pardoned and ordered the release of a gay couple sentenced to 14 years in prison for sodomy and indecency charges. “These boys committed a crime against our culture, our religion and our laws. However, as the head of state, I hereby pardon them and therefore ask for their immediate release with no conditions. I have done this on humanitarian grounds, but this does not mean that I support this. We don’t condone marriages of this nature. It’s unheard of in Malawi and it’s illegal.”

Malawi had faced international condemnation for the conviction and 14-year sentences given to the two men, who were arrested in December, a day after celebrating their engagement. No one knows where the men went after their release. They were not at their Blantyre home.

Madonna’s statement on Malawi’s gay couple who have been sentenced to 14 years in prison for being gay

21 05 2010

“I am shocked and saddened by the decision made today by the Malawian court, which sentenced two innocent men to prison. As a matter of principle, I believe in equal rights for all people, no matter what their gender, race, color, religion, or sexual orientation. Today, Malawi took a giant step backward. The world is filled with pain and suffering; therefore, we must support our basic human right to love and be loved. I call upon the progressive men and women of Malawi – and around the world – to challenge this decision in the name of human dignity and equal rights for all.”  – Madonna

Really? After all of the hoopla that surrounded this subject and after everything this couple has gone through Madonna releases this lame statement when the court decision has been made. It’s just another one of those things where Madonna could have done something but waited until she couldn’t and then released an altruistic kumbaya kind of jargon.

Video Premiere: “Babyfather” by Sade

5 05 2010

The second single off of the chart-shattering new album Soldier Of Love is not what we expected but is a great sing-along tune. The album cracked platinum recently, which is almost unheard of in this day and age. Sade is showing us that age ain’t nothing but a number. The video looks like a mother’s version of Bjork’s “Venus As A Boy.”
