Haiku Review: “It All Starts With One” by Ane Brun
3Introducing… Lianne La Havas
5
Watch out for the new beats of 2012. Lianne La Havas is a great new talent that sounds and feels like a merger between Corinne Bailey Rae and Norah Jones without the pretense. Her sound is raw and sombre. She takes bluesy folk into a contemporary dimension, very much in the Ane Brun sense. She is a child of the Instagram generation. The young (only 21) damsel has just signed to major label Warner Music and she will be making waves next year, although she has garnered quite a following on Twitter and Facebook. More to come from this lovely newcomer.
Exclusive: 5 Questions With Loft965.com: Ane Brun
31. Greetings from Kuwait! Loft965.com picked your album It All Starts With One as an “Album to look forward to in 2011.” How do you feel about that and what do you think this year holds for you?
I’m very proud and happy to hear that! I hope that as many people as possible will hear this album, because I’m very happy with it. I’m going to do my best to spread my music around the world.
2. The first single “Do You Remember?” is a different sound from your other singles. What inspired this direction and what’s behind the song?
The demo for this song is me playing a bass line on one string of a guitar. It’s a kind of melancholic love folk song, and this rhythm was already there in the bass line. But we decided to make it bigger, and we invited 3 drummers to the studio. I felt like making a production where you just can’t stand still. I hope everyone wants to move to it.
3. You recently toured with Ani DiFranco, whom we love here at Loft965.com, how did you find the experience and should we look forward to more collaborations in the future?
Ani DiFranco is a very lovely woman, and I’m a big fan of hers. She was my main inspiration when I first started playing guitar 12 years ago. I loved doing the gigs with her, and playing for her audience, and I hope that I can do it again in the future.
4. What will be the next single from It All Starts With One and why did you choose it?
We chose “Worship” as the next single from the album. I love José Gonzales’ voice and I love this recording. It’s a bit hypnotizing.
5. We love quotes, what is your favorite quote or motto?
“It always seems impossible until it’s done.”
― Nelson Mandela

1Ane Brun performs “Do You Remember” live!
This is our favorite song as of now. Great number, great vocals and greater arrangement. We wish we could understand what she said in the beginning though. The new album, It All Starts With One, comes out next month and we are waiting for it like its a Mariah Carey album.
Sexy Track: “Do You Remember” by Ane Brun
3Everyone knows Norway’s Ane Brun can bring a melancholy winter like no one can. She can bring up down from the highest tops, just listen to any of her album cuts and you will want to slit something. Some downer songs are lovely, but Ane Brun has decided to take her artistic vision to a new level and explore some more upbeat rhythms. on “Do You Remember” Ane Brun divorces sadness in a quest for some foot-tapping goodness. Of course, the biggest draw has stayed the same – that layered voice. The vocals on this track make the song. The beats are nothing new, but the chorus will take you to another level. A true ode to nostalgia dressed as a clapping song. This is not just a great track, but proof that great artists don’t falter by exploring new genres.
Video Premiere: “Do You Remember” by Ane Brun
1We have been waiting for Ane Brun to get back as soon as possible and this is very worth the wait. We love this song and can’t get enough of it, the vocals on it are impeccable and the sound is fresh and new from Ane. Lovely return for the Norwegian damsel, let’s hope the album is just as cool.

1Introducing… Agnes Obel
4On 4 October Agnes Obel is to release her debut album on [PIAS] Recordings. Called, ‘Philharmonics’, the album will be preceded by the release of the ‘Riverside’ EP on 6 September. Feeling musically related to Roy Orbison, Agnes currently lives in Berlin and possesses the rare gift of a songbird’s voice, bringing to mind Ane Brun, Joanna Newsom or even Ricki Lee Jones. Play “Just So” to anyone in Germany and they’ll tell you it’s the music from the Deutsche Telekom television advertisement. It’s the kind of exposure many an artist would die for, or the kind of publicity an independent spirit might agonise over – venturing into the commercial arena. Yet isn’t it intriguing how a few bars of music can seep into our consciousness and set us off wondering where they came from?
Ani DiFranco has laryngitis, cancels NYC shows
1One of the shows that we billed to be the greatest show in 2010 has been cancelled due to Ani DiFrance’s medical condition. We know how Ms. DeFazio loves her touring and takes it seriously, so we understand the need for the delay of the show which features Ane Brun as an opening act and Melissa Ferrick. Let’s hope she gets well soon.
