Don’t Quote Me, Vol. 391

“I’d like to go to all the pretty parties
where all the pretty people go
and I ain’t really all that pretty
but nobody will know
cuz everybody loves you
when you’re a star
and nobody questions
what it takes to go that far”

- Ani DiFranco from “The Million You Never Made”

Legendary: “Pick Yer Nose” by Ani DiFranco

This is back when Ani DiFranco was amidst her anti-establishment demeanor. With rootsy folk strumming and a punk attitude, DiFranco shaped a generation with loyal fans. She continues to amuse, but those days are golden days of revolutionary music and a beautiful underground movement in music. Beautiful little track from one of her starkest albums Puddle Dive.

Ani DiFranco, one of the most prolific artists of our era, has been slowing down lately. With the new baby in tow and an extensive touring schedule who has time to record a full-length album anymore? Well, she’s not releasing 2 albums a year, but she sure has been writing a whole lot following the release of Red Letter Year.

This song (above) is called “If You’re Not” and it is bringing the folkie back in DiFranco. The rest of the tracks don’t stray too far away, but their studio re-interpretations will probably have more instrumentation. There are six new songs floating around, which is half an album. Let’s hope that a new record is in the works for the forth quarter of 2009. Click below for some more new music from Ms. Defazio.

Ani DiFranco’s “Promiscuity” banned in Singapore

What a shame! Ani DiFranco’s only live date in Asia ever and she can’t even sing her new songs. Meanwhile, Lil’ Wayne’s “Lollipop” is filling up all the clubs from Sentosa Island to Tantric. Singapore has to liberalize its laws and jump into the 21st century. She is not saying anything obscene by any standards. It’s just her point of view and I fully agree.

Political commentary from Ani DiFranco

This has to be the best political commentary about the elections I have heard in a while. Even if this is old, it still rings true to the times. She is always so profound and succinct.
