Loft965.com commemorates the King of Pop, Michael Jackson

1

It’s been exactly a year since our beloved Michael Jackson has passed away and pop hasn’t been the same since. As if his passing wasn’t enough, people started insulting playing “Billie Jean” and “Beat It” on repeat as if the King was only good for two hits, or anything that came from Thriller. But, his legacy continues and the real musicologists know that he is more than just an 80s’ fad or fading star.

Mariah Carey celebrates 40th birthday today!

World-renowned diva and personal favorite Mariah Carey turns 40 this March 27th, 2010. Yes, the big 4-0! This picture is of Mariah when she was 20. Not much has changed. She’s still the great MC. We know that Mariah doesn’t like calling it a “birthday” but opts for “anniversary” instead. You can join the festivities over at her official website where there is a competition going on and all kinds of lambery ensuing. Or you could send Honey B. Fly a message here. In celebration, we will reminisce on the amazing body of musical work the diva has established throughout her four decades here and let’s hope for the best to come in the next 4. Cheers, toast, bravo… to you.

Oprah 24th season opening…

They were standing so still, we knew they were a flashmob. Do the Black Eyed Peas really need any more promotion for their tired old album? She’s opening big, with this and the Whitney Houston exclusive. I wonder what she’s doing for 25th anniversary. did Oprah really have to plug in that phone that bad?

How many years has it been since humans visited the moon?

40. Yes, 4 decades ago a human set foot on another body in space (that we know of). For some reason people find this a point of celebration. I have always been interested in our planet’s sphere. I am also interest in mapping the ocean floors since the human has only visited 2% of the ocean floor. We really have no clue what’s down there. My thing is, why go colonize and explore other planets when there is so much shit going on here that needs fixing? Why don’t we just work on what we have instead of going out on a limb and visiting outer space and, in the long run, destroying it like we did to our planet? I am not a rocket scientist and there might be great reasons for this voyage, but I feel like it’s another way the big suits can tap into a new territory to exploit it and its resources.

blackberry-selfridges-mobile-smart-phoneFrom Selectism: “I have to admit, the yellow colorway just works on this Blackberry for Selfridges 100th birthday celebration. If you missed it the first time, here’s another shot at them ‘BlackBerry created only 10 limited edition handset, all of which sold out within the first two weeks! However, due to popular demand BlackBerry have now created one last handset, which will be acquired by one lucky customer on the last day of May. Customers may phone the Concept Store at Selfridges Oxford Street to leave their details and be entered for the chance to buy the last centenary BlackBerry!’”

Must-Watch: Video: “Love Story” by Mariah Carey

Not to be confused with a Mariah single, but this is just a video Nick Cannon put together for us fans, also known as “lambs.” As you can tell by the hotel room footage and the absolutely nightmarish typeface, this is not Mariah-approved but i am sure she let it slip, especially since they are celebrating their one year anniversary. Mariah hair-swishing and over-the-top melisma is always welcome in our book no matter what the format. Watch how tacky her turn to say “No” at 3:30 secs is.
