Prince Harry uses anti-Arab racial slur…

First it was his costume party outfit of the Nazi war general and now this. Also, I remember an incident in Afghanistan when he wore a cap that had a American flag on it that read “We do bad things to bad people,” which I thought was horrid. I mean, this is not just the folly of youth. This one is demented thug that obviously thinks that he is superior to every other race and culture. The royal family are going to have to do a lot of damaged control if they want to maintain what little legitimacy they have to the rest of the world. This is just not acceptable. Especially from the third in line for the world’s greatest colonial power.

Kuwait Crime: Transsexual Bonanza

23

 cross-dressers held
Kuwait : Three cross-dressers who were arrested by police in Salmiya have been referred to the concerned authorities, reports Arrouiah daily. According to security sources police acting on information rushed to a well-known café in Salmiya and whisked them away to a police station. They have been identified as a bedoun, a Kuwaiti and an Iraqi. At the time of arrest they were wearing a heavy make-up and dressed like women.

Really? What is the reason for the arrest? Too much make-up? Or just having some taste?

I don’t why people are being locked up for a victimless “crime.” This just goes to show how backwards a society is.

Must-Watch: Milk (2008)

1

milkposter08 I have been waiting for this movie for a long time. I am very familiar with Harvey Milk’s life and work. When rumors of this movie surfaced, I was both excited and anxious. I was afraid that in the hollywoodization of this film his life would be misrepresented and the issues not given the right treatment. I have to say that the movie does as much justice as can, considering  the fact that it has to squeeze in a person’s life in approximately two hours.

Sean Penn has always been an actor to reckon with and James Franco is just pure eye-candy. The movie goes back in time to depict the early days of the gay civil rights movement post-Stonewall and pre-HIV/AIDS. In a time that was drenched in ignorance and intolerance towards any sexual minority. San Francisco was center stage for the liberal front, where hippies, gays and other social outcasts gathered to fit in. In the process they managed to elect the first openly gay governmental figure in US history (if you don’t count Abraham Lincoln).

George Michael in Abu Dhabi…

3

michael_2

What a great concert it was! I know that because there wasn’t anything to the concert other than the songs and a bunch of big screens with forgettable visuals, but the music sufficed to overcome all that. Alicia did her thing and she did it well. It sounded very much like her Unplugged. Then George came on and did some singles from his impressive catalogue. The audience didn’t stop dancing and we were always gripped to his performance. I was saddened everytime he thanks people for the past 25 (or is it 27?) years. It was his farewell tour. I hope he defines “farewell” like Cher. Anyway, I heard his new Christmas song. It’s blah, but if it gets him back in the studio then that’s enough. He is such a great pop songwriter. Don’t go away!

Celine Dion is desperate…

myloveessential_collection

After packing seats in Vegas and assuming a creative hiatus to fulfill her aspirations of stability, Celine Dion returned with her album Talking Chances, which tanked badly. Mostly because the stuff on it isn’t as good even when she got Ne-Yo on board and other it-boys and partially because the lead single and its video are utterly ridiculous (watch it after the jump).

Kuwait climbs freedom of speech index…

2007

2006

Finally, some good news. But, I have to do more research to see if it actually climbed up because it got better or because other countries have dropped down. And a note to the rest of the bloggers: being #1 in the Arab world is not really a feat.

McCain’s Anti-Arab comment…

5

I recently heard about this incident:

“Mr. Powell also told reporters on Sunday that he was troubled that a number of Americans believe that Mr. Obama is a Muslim, although he did not directly link that supposition to the McCain campaign. At a recent town-hall style meeting, Mr. McCain told an audience member who said she thought that Mr. Obama was an “Arab,” ‘no, ma’am, he’s a decent family man.’”

I have to say I am not surprised. One of his greatest supporters is John Hagee, who is anti-arab and also an anti-catholic homophobe. This is the kind of mentality that most republicans have and that is the driving power behind their parts. I mean he didn’t have to say it, just his refutation for the woman’s comments shows what he really thinks of arabs. And, I guess since Arabs are a small minority in the voting arena, who care?

Christina Aguilera does Abu Dhabi

1

I am very excited that Christina Aguilera is coming this way. I am thinking of getting last minute tickets to go see her. Although I know she is not exactly promoting anything but a greatest hits collection and she does not put on the best shows out there. Plus, the microphone tapping gets annoying after a while. But, it’s still Xtina and even if her last single was deplorable, she is worth the 850 AED (61 KD) for “diamond” seating. The trick now is to persuade my friends to come with me. It’s going to be hard, especially that everyone is geared up to see Kylie in November.
