“My mother taught me that when you stand in the truth and someone tells a lie about you, don’t fight it.”
-Whitney Houston
Lana Del Rey is blowing up faster than a balloon in volatile conditions. So much so that her abandoned first album is getting a release album. Yes, that’s her pre-fillers. The pictures are a little less flattering than her new carefully-constructed look. This little album is getting a release date sometime this year following Born To Die, which just came out. She said: “People act like it’s so shrouded in mystery, the ‘forgotten terrible album’. But if you look on YouTube, all thirteen tracks are available with millions of views, so it’s not like no-one’s heard them. We were all proud of it. It’s pretty good.”
The Tings Tings are trying to make room for their sophomore album, but so far everything the have been released isn’t up to par to their striking debut. This dance song is neither here nor there and the earlier “Hands” sounds like a B-Side from their older singles. It’s just not the same, this is quite excruciating to listen to.
For those of you taken aback by the glory of Melankton, we have great news for you. After giving us a luscious taster with “Show Me Love,” Kate Havnevik is back with a new album after a hiatus titled You. The album is available for purchase on Kate’s official website. Click here.
Is it just us or is this purely horrid. This is a hot mess. We expected more from The Ting Tings who delivered a great debut album. But, the two tracks that we got from them (“Hands” and “Hang It Up”) are just not up to par. So sad to see We Started Nothing followed by this balderdash.
This is one of the loveliest spoken word tracks from Ani DiFranco’s career, from the epic Little Plastic Castle, one of the albums that shaped our musical tastes and our personal life. This is just pure history in our books and everyone that hasn’t familiarized themselves with this, should.
We haven’t listened to anything from him recently, but some of his tracks go down on the soundtrack of our lives. For some reason, we are very excited about this one because, and only guessing by the title, we feel like it is a much-needed return of the politically-oriented lyrical movement. Great hippie stuff! 7/10.
This great fervor for soul from the UK is growing as this scour for more of this nasty beat continues. Here we see the maestro John Rocca at his best with great lyrics and a shaking disco reverb that will get up on your feet and leave you waiting for a mirrorball revival.
Lovely cover of Nicola Roberts’ debut Cinderella’s Eyes. We give it a 8/10. Click below for the track listing of the album, which already has a hit single.
Allegedly, the one and only soultress with the mostest Erykah Badu is venturing into the world of dance music. Rumors are circulating that with her new job as DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown has gotten her into the groove of making some shaking sounds. The queen of neosoul goes by different aliases like Medula Oblongata, Sera Ballum, Analog Girl In A Digital World and @Fatbellybella. So, it could be one of those phases. We all know how long Miss Badu takes to make an album.
All this summer uppity dance crap is getting to us and we can’t wait to get down to basics and listen to music of the heart and soul like the strums of Laura Marling who is prepping her third full-length album A Creature I Don’t Know for a September 12th, 2011 release. This may or may not be on the record, but it most likely will. We’re just guessing by the lyrical prowess and arrangement.
