Must-Watch: Video Premiere: “Beautiful” by Mariah Carey featuring Miguel

May 10, 2013 by Loft965.com

Oh , happy day! Mariah Carey’s new video is here and she is looking fiercer than ever. Of course it’s a whole lotta hair swishing and some MC posing but the video is a quaint little affair. The lovely MC brought it again and she looks better than most of dem young girls!

Video Premiere: “Gentleman” by Psy

April 14, 2013 by Loft965.com

He’s back! Will this track have what it takes to make him kick the title of One-Hit Wonder? Well, what we think is that the first one was so big that this has to have a little weight when it hits radio. It’s like Babylon Zoo’s “Spaceman” was so big that even when the second single “Animal Army,” which was horrendous, came out… it managed to land in the Top 20.

Legendary: “I Want You” by Madonna

April 8, 2013 by Loft965.com

Madonna has experimented with many things, but only a few collaborations have taken her to a different scope. This collaboration with trip hop powerhouse Massive Attack is one of her best. This track gets the essence of yearning to the T. It feels like someone really wanted something without doing a feasibility study and still not caring about that. It’s just magic.

Sexy Track: “Come & Get It” by Selena Gomez

April 8, 2013 by Loft965.com

Selena Gomez’s last album was our favorite gult pleasure. Yes, we didn’t want to admit it as all. But, she delivered on so many different. So, naturally, we are waiting for her new release. Girl, did she shock us. Listen to the song here!  This new song starts out with an oriental beat (or what the West thinks is oriental whatever that is), then meanders into teen rocks without being too intrusive. It’s a fun little track that is very […]

Music For Rap Lovers: Lyrical Exercise

April 7, 2013 by Loft965.com

So, my younger brother thought that his playlists are better then mine and opted to make his own compilation. Lyrical Exercise is a rap compilation, probably the only one you will ever see on this site. We promised him to post it here if he made a worthy playlist. So, if you know any rap lovers out there refer them to this one! : Download :

First Listen: “Wildest Moments (Ft. A$AP Rocky)” by Jessie Ware

April 2, 2013 by Loft965.com

We don’t know why people resort to these half-hearted rap collaborations to hit the US market. Amy Winehouse did it, so did Kylie Minogue. This song did not need the balderdash, it’s strong enough to deliver on its own.

Free Download: “Young Blood” by Sophie Ellis-Bextor

March 31, 2013 by Loft965.com

Sophie Ellis-Bextor might be cooking up something real cute for us, but for now you will have to settle for a track she put out there so she can get all your emails. Here’s a message she left:

We DJed (for the first time) at Kenzo’s store launch!

March 28, 2013 by Loft965.com

Sometimes you gotta take a risk to test yourself, this we did recently. In our time as music bloggers (and even before) we have been asked many times to DJ for events, we always declined because we didn’t have the expertise of DJing, nor did we think it was the right medium because we are very sensitive about our music and we sure as hell don’t take any requests. But, this leap was timely. First we were asked by someone […]

Sexy Track: “Solace” by Fyfe

March 25, 2013 by Loft965.com

With all the new technology out there to make music, there’s nothing better than a simple track with powerful lyrics. Fyfe is a newcomer that caters to just that need. In one of only two songs he has out there, Fyfe manages to capture the essence of a modern-day lullaby. It’s stark and naked, relying heavily on its fragile melody and ever-present vocals. If given the right light, this song can be as big as Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used […]

Video Premiere: “Andre” by JoJo

March 21, 2013 by Loft965.com

We are not sure what JoJo is doing with her career releasing all these half-finished songs. This is definitely not made to be a single and it’s not 2003 – this beat is dated. We love JoJo and we want  her to release good stuff. Blah! PS, did we hear a line of India.Arie’s in the lyrics?

Legendary: “Stay (I Missed You)” by Lisa Loeb

March 20, 2013 by Loft965.com

Now that we have had the pleasure of interviewing Lisa Loeb for our Pop Form series, we decided to delve back into her catalogue. Lisa Loeb burst onto the scene in 1990s’ with this song which was on the soundtrack of Reality Bites. It was a modern-day lullaby surpassing all the overproduction of the decade and landing at #1 on the US Billboard Charts. Click below for the acoustically pretty version of the song.

Video Premiere: “Mirrors” by Justin Timberlake

March 20, 2013 by Loft965.com

Justin Timberlake’s second single has gotten a video treatment. “Mirrors,” unfortunately, sounds exactly like “Cry Me A River,” which is not a decade old! We don’t know why his management thought this would be a good sound to go with because it just shows that he hasn’t evolved that much since his debut solo album.

Must-Watch: Video Premiere: “Closer” by Lulu James

March 18, 2013 by Loft965.com

This brings all kinds of wonderment to our soul. This is the first official single of singer Lulu James who, if there is any justice in the dance world (which the isn’t), should have a big hit under her sleeve. It’s strong and makes a statement. The sound is an ode to 90s’ vocal house without being too experimental, a la Hercules & Love Affair. Just amazing!

Melanie Fiona does amazing cover of Whitney Houston’s “One Moment In Time”

March 6, 2013 by Loft965.com

What is Melanie Fiona blabbing about when she said “One Moment In Time” is “…a forgotten gem from [Whitney's] catalogue.” No one ever forgot it and it’s a pretty well-known song in all karaoke bars across the world. “Love Is A Contact Sport” – now, that’s a forgotten gem! Maybe she should cover that one!

Must-Watch: Video Premiere: “Bucket List” by Nelly Furtado

February 22, 2013 by Loft965.com

Yes! Nelly Furtado finally came to her senses and released the best track on The Spirit Indestructible as a single! This is what we wanted to happen in the beginning. We hope that Nelly Furtado is not down in the dumps about the slumping sales of the album, because if she could churn up hits like this she will always turn this little hobby of herin profit. This is, hands down, one of our all time favorite Nelly Furtado tracks!

Billboard Charts and Nielsen Ratings Add YouTube Video Streaming to Platforms

February 21, 2013 by Loft965.com

“Billboard and Nielsen announced today the addition of U.S. YouTube video streaming data to its platforms, which includes an update to the methodology for the Billboard Hot 100, the preeminent singles chart.   The YouTube streaming data is now factored into the chart’s ranking, enhancing a formula that includes Nielsen’s digital download track sales and physical singles sales; as well as terrestrial radio airplay, on-demand audio streaming, and online radio streaming, also tracked by Nielsen.

Kylie Minogue collaborates with Icelandic band Mum on “Whistle!”

February 20, 2013 by Loft965.com

This is almost as surprising as when Ani DiFranco collaborated with Jackie Chan. Or something like that. Our favorite dance diva has collaborated with one of our fave Icelandic bands. Yes, who knew it would ever but the power of the soundtrack has brought them together. Kylie Minogue and Mum collaborated and this is the result! Now, all we need is a collaboration between Beyonce and Lianne La Havas and we will be momentarily happy.

Video Premiere: “I Like It Loud” by Carmen Electra

February 14, 2013 by Loft965.com

If you want to leave a mark on the music scene and have longevity, you can’t reply on a hot producer and a skimpy dance song. You need to come up with something that makes you different or something that makes you stand out. This is not it, we’re afraid.
