Sexy Track: “I Feel Better” by Gotye

Gotye has taken pop and alternative and merged them in a beautiful melody. The Australian singer visits everything great about the 80s and bring it to the future. Some jolly tunes from that time didn’t quite make it through the rough and rugged terrain of the 90s’. Thankfully, Gotye has penned a number that feels like “Walking On Sunshine” without the schmaltz. This track is an ode to personal rejuvenation and optimistic expectations. The kind of track that would make Peter Gabriel wish he had written it for So. “I Feel Better” is one of these songs that can uplift you just by listening to it the first time. So much so that it should be playing over some ending credits of a romantic comedy film this summer.

Sexy Track: “Somebody That I Used To Know” by Gotye featuring Kimbra

Only a few people are brave enough to channel 80s’ MOR Rock to conjure up a hit these day, but Gotye is a force to reckon with. The Australian rocker has embarked on a venture to channel the best sounds of The Police, Phil Collins and Mike + The Mechanics and come up with a unique sound for his new album Making Mirrors. This track is the one making most waves. It’s a great number with a hint of lyrical nostalgia. It’s a stark ballad that teeters between a sombre ode to lost love to a brighter look into the future.

Video Premiere: “Vicious Love” by Gabriella Cilmi

Gabriella Cilmi is trying every genre known to earth to make and all she needs to know is that her Aussie pizzaz is all she needs to get her where she wants to get. A new album that concentrates on vocals and less of overproduction in the studio would do wonders. Not sure where this track is from but the investigation shall ensue.

Legendary: “I Wanna be Your Lady” by Hinda Hicks

1

Back in the day, there were no Moroccan producers like RedOne or many Arabs in the pop music limelight. Granted, there still isn’t. But back in the day Hinda Hicks was one of the only ones. She rose to fame with made-for-the-US soul hits that did well in R&B unfriendly environments like the UK charts. Her brand of smooth speaks of an era when making pretty music sans overproduction and glamorization was quite cool. Too bad she didn’t make it past all of the obstacles. When Nelly Furtado came out we though Hinda has comeback with a vengence, but was just a resemblance.  Word in is that she has a new album titled Journey’s coming out this fall.

Sexy Track: “End Of The World” by Lenka

She first burst onto the scene with “The Show,” which was a happy-go-lucky track of sorts. The song went everywhere from Hong Kong shampoo commercials to the soundtrack to the movie Easy A. Well, this wasn’t the only track of its brand but Lenka has mastered this genre. This track is a great overture for a high school crush. It might have a teeny bopper element to it, but its definitely not cheesy, which is a hard combination to mix. This is just a lovely morning love song that will make you want to fall in love or hanging out with your significant other. She kept it simple and sexy.

The diva’s at it again and she is bringing it to the fan. Kylie Minogue discussed her forthcoming tour, love, and about how she manages to stay so beautiful. “Well my show is big, to say the least,” Kylie explained. “It’s a huge stage, lots of highly technical, tricky business having on stage. This venue, a, is practially brand new. I’ve never been in a venue so clean in my life. But also it allowed us to do our production rehearsals here.” Watch the interview here.

Loft965.com has its best day ever!

6

This Monday was the  best day Loft965.com has seen, and keep in mind, we’ve seen some good days! On that day we managed to to get hits from Google, Facebook and Bing in the upper 5-digits on one post only, not including the thousands we get daily on the Loft. Put it all together and we managed to notch up the best day in the history of the blog. Also, we managed to get the 4th most read post that day on WordPress, beating posts by giants like CNN and Entertainment Weekly. Not only that, but December 2010 is also shaping up to be the best month for the blog.

We, ofcourse, are very thankful and are looking to expand the blog. We have removed all the ads as of now so we can have a fresh start in 2011. 2010 was a great year filled with accomplishments including reaching the 2 million mark, establishing a great foundation of loyal readers, the expansion of our little workforce and, most importantly, cementing our foot as one of the 100 most read music blogs in the world! Currently we are sitting pretty at #59 in the world, which is such an accomplishment because the other blogs on there are either corporation-funded or have been around for much more than Loft965.com.

We wish you a great 2011 and we can’s wait to see what the new year has to hold for us. We also have a couple of surprises coming your way – stay tuned. So, keep the suggestions, feedback, hits, press releases, invites, music downloads, events and praises coming! We are thankful for all.
