This has got to be one of our favorite songs of the year. Not only did it reach the number one spot on our much-coveted chart, but it’s also the return of one of our favorite bands. “Sing Sang Sung” is a cheery chillout tune with a great chorus. It’s the lead-off single to Love 2, which will be out in a couple of weeks.

We can’t decide if this is utterly horrible or campy fun.
Oasis have broken up
2Oasis have split. Yes, it’s yet another fight between the Gallagher brothers. This time Liam (always the shit-starter) allegedly insinuated that Noel’s daughter Anais wasn’t his spawn. So Noel picked up and left. But this is just the fodder. The real news is that Oasis haven’t released anything substational since “D’Ya Know What I Mean” and are, therefore, irrelevant in these times. Also, Liam sure talks a lot of shit for someone with a horrid voice fronting Oasis. Noel is the one that writes the everything and he is the reason why they are a household name. Can’t wait to see Liam squirm when Noel releases his solo material.
Sugababes name album Sweet 7
1The muchly-anticipated album of one of the greatest non-disbanded girl bands has been given a name. Sweet 7 is the 7th Sugababes album. It’s really not that original. Catfights & Spotlights is better. They should have waited for their 17th album for that. Something tells me this will be the last full-length album from them. “Get Sexy” is too great for “common” people, so it won’t perform well even if it’s better than most of the pop songs of this year. Let’s just wait and see there could be a knock-em-down single. But, so far, it’s make-or-break.
It’s La Roux’s year…
4What a year it has been for La Roux. The duo that everyone mistakes for Elly Jackson, but, in reality, includes Ben Langmaid, who is behind the scenes but half of it. Out of all the bands pitted to take over 2009, La Roux wins the proverbial cup. When I first was introduced to them I thought the band was too concept-driven and stuck in a different time to penetrate this Rihanna market. But, it turns out La Roux had some solid hits hidden behind “Quicksand.” Both other singles were stronger: “In For The Kill” and “Bulletproof.” Other tracks that titillate on the debut album are “I’m Not Your Toy” and “As If By Magic.” Also, it is important to note that they’re other strong feature is their visual conceptualizing. Their videos are some of the best we’ve seen this year.
New album from Air titled Love 2
1Just when you thought the gentle gods of chill out have taken a long “unbend and unwind” they all gush out with new material. First, it was Royskopp. Then, Moby releases one of the best efforts of the year. Now, both Zero 7 and Air announce that they are releasing full lengthers this year. Air are also giving out a free track titled “Do They Joy,” which is obviously not that single because it’s really not that exciting. Sounds like an off-shoot from 10,000 Hz Legend that never made it onto Everybody Hertz. But, it’s just a buzz builder and I am sure there is sexier stuff on Love 2. Not quite sure if this is the album cover, it’s OK. Excited for all this new material. In fact, this is the third most anticipated release for me this year. Mariah, Whitney then Air. Then Zero 7. Unless Fiona Apple releases something, they will all go down one number.
Marching band does Röyksopp’s “Happy Up Here”
I just got my cyberhands on Junior. Sounds scrumptious.
Introducing… CASXIO
1CASXIO are a quartet of funky musicians who fuse elements of rock with disco. If you are having a hard time imagining that merger check out their new single “Seventeen,” which is likely to be on my “Most Played” iTunes playlist soon. It reminds me of early Shalamar mixed in with The Vines. The group is out now touring in support of Yelle and they are set to wow the world around with their Four Songs EP,which is available on their website for free. Go get it and listen to one of 2009′s break-through acts.
