Diane Birch live on David Letterman

Her vocals always lay right in place. She’s picking up some sales and she deserves it.
Diane Birch covers Haddaway’s “What Is Love?”
She really turned the early 90s’ dance floor stomper into a deep and eloquent ballad. If you ask me, it should have been on the album, but I hear it’s on the set list on her live shows. She is really growing on me. Bible Belt is one of the best albums of the year. It’s vintage without trying to hard, soulful but without overproduction or vinyl scratches for authenticity, a la Christina Aguilera.

2Diane Birch’s album Bible Belt is on heavy-rotation at the Loft965.com office (whatever couch I am crashing on). It’s pure Motown slick and has quite the right amount of yule instrumentation without being a christian or christmasy. This is one of the best tracks on their, but the album is really all a treat. And there’s a song on their about a lost soulmate named “Ariel.” I mean, how biographical is that?
Introducing… Diane Birch
2The UK is not the only country to jump on the motown throw-back bandwagon. The US is catching up. Diane Birch is a singer in that vein. All tracks on the album have the scratch and whimper of a soul vinyl record. The kind one listens to from beginning to end. But, considering that this is a US artist, an element of twang and, dare I say, country exists throughout the album. Bible Belt has some solid old skool tunes like “Choo Choo” and the epic “Ariel,” which brings back Elton John during his prime. The whole album is filled with scrumptious tracks from the smooth “Nothing But A Miracle,” where show showcases her poignant voice to the haunting closer “Magic View.” Diane Birch is definitely an artist to look out for. I’ll keep you posted.
American troops trying to convert people to Christianity
As if the US foreign policy’s reputation wasn’t tarnished enough, things like these still pop up to show the world how a big chunk of the American populous believe they are on some holy quest of sorts with those meaningless wars Bush has started but never finished. Now these troops are going around Afghanistan handing out bibles translated in Pushtu and Dari to citizens and label them as “gifts.” They say the are on a “hunt for Jesus.” What a great choice of words.
Now that Obama’s in office, a man that understands and respects everyone’s belief system, whether monotheistic or atheistic, the Pentagon has to get on top of this and makes sure that a bunch of rednecks don’t blemish the US’s rep in the region as did those Abu Ghuraib criminals. What is it about pious people and there firm belief that them, and only them, are on the right path? Isn’t that some sort of sociopathic behavior? And why is this not on CNN?
