Linda Perhacs is a California dentist who recorded the legendary psychedelic folk record Parallelograms back in 1970. The album disappeared without much of a proper release and Linda went back into dentistry, only to discover a new generation of fans and artists (like Devendra Banhart, Daft Punk, and Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth) hailing her album as an influential masterpiece 40 years later. This is just a snippet of her contribution to freak folk way before it become a genre.

Missy Higgins finished recording third album!
2The summer of last year when we met Missy Higgins in Los Angeles she told us that she is taking it slow and not pressuring herself into making another album anytime soon. We expressed our love for everything she has does and told her that we even listen to her B-sides. She replied that she might go back into the studio sometime in the near future. Well, it turns out that she did because she just tweeted that she has officially finished recording the new album, which will be her third. This is exciting news as Autumn is coming up and there is no better time to listen to some strums from Missy Higgins than during Fall.
Exclusive: 5 Questions With Loft965.com: Vanessa Carlton
11. Greetings from Kuwait! Loft965.com picked your album as an “Album to look forward to in 2011.” How do you feel about that and what do you think this year holds for you?
So happy that you dig rabbits. Making this record was personally transformative…..people connecting to the finished product is wonderful and makes me feel less alone I think.
2. We love the first single. What will be your next single?
Not sure. “I Don’t Want To Be A Bride?,” “Dear California?”
3. How do you find your departure from mainstream labels to be and do you prefer it this way?
I cut ties from everything 2 years ago. I self funded the record and became my own little arts and crafts shop. I am so lucky to have been able to do that. Since then I found this indie label called Razor and Tie. They loved the vibe of this album and are on the same page in terms of the direction I’m heading. Again….I feel less alone. Nice.
4. Your new album, Rabbits On The Run, is very different than your previous releases. What was your inspiration behind making it?
It’s taken me 10 years to get back to the honest vibe of my earlier demos. How many times do you hear demos of songs and prefer them to the overly embellished record version? I NEVER want to feel that way again. I made a very honest and simple record. I was inspired by the sound of my vinyl record collection in terms of aesthetic. The songs are a meditation of 2 books….Watership Down by Richard Adams and A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking. The art work is inspired by the Hill’s Manuel….an etiquette book from the 1900′s.
5. We love quotes, what is your favorite quote or motto?
My motto is this: Pin. The. Tail. On. The. Donkey.

5Sacha Baron Cohen is set to play Freddie Mercury in biopic
Yes, news just in is that the man behind Bruno, Borat and Ali G will play the legendary Freddie Mercury of Queen in a biopic slated for 2011. We are really not OK with that as we remember that when he hosted some MTV awards show back in the day he made an insensitive AIDS joke about the Queen frontman that was unnecessary and disturbing. We know we are sounding like conservatives, but that was just crass and untimely for a subject so delicate.
Legendary: “King Of Pain” by Alanis Morissette
Randomly popped up on our iPod and this little Police cover is a great number that Alanis did for her MTV Unplugged performance. it’s a quaint little rendition and we love that she uses both male and female pronouns and nouns throughout the track.
Again: Music For August: Prancina!
13It’s that time of the month again and boy, do we have mood swings. Ok, we are talking about something else. But, in keeping with all things summer as we are having a good one, this one is in celebration of the sun really like its predecessors. Some great gay pop beats and a bunch of singles and some new talents that we discovered along the way. Its really an average compilation or regulars, newbies and a vintage one. We hope you like it as we have been listening to it non-stop. Yes, we put a picture of ourselves on it not purely out of narcissistic needs but also because we feel a great sense of accomplishment this month. Enjoy and feed us back.
