2Exclusive: Artists to look out for in 2011
3Kylie Minogue debuts in the US top 20, Kelis doesn’t!
1Just when you think the American public geared itself into listening to some great dance music that is not Cascada or “Sandstorm.” Another factor shows up to make us pessimistic. While Kylie, following her much-publicized US tour and the new album promo, finally gets a top 20 debut on the US Billboard Charts. Aphrodite has landed at #19 with approximately 18,000 copies sold. Now, this is somewhat good news, but she still deserves the top spot.
In other news within the same vain, Kelis’s fifth album Fleshtone did miserably on the charts. The album landed at #46 selling only 7,833 copies! The album is arguably Kelis’s best and despite scoring a number one dance single with “Acapella,” she still debuted at her lowest chart position ever. Maybe because the leak came very early?
Sugababes might miss the top 10!
1The midweek sales for the Sugababes new album Sweet 7 show that the girls might not land in the top ten. Right about now the sales indicate a 11-12 spot. Even Paloma Faith who released her album last year might be in the top 10. It seems that the fans aren’t too happy with the lineup change as, let’s put it frankly, it’s not the Sugababes anymore. Keisha Buchanan must having a great time receiving the news. Sweet 7 can make or break those girls’ careers.

Video: “Fireflies” by Owl City
2We are still amused at the album cover of the group that is fast becoming some sort of college sensation. They have Burj Al Arab right on the album cover. The track “Fireflies” is on top of the download charts!
Alicia Key’s album “The Element Of Freedom” pushed back to December 15th
1This is a new photo from the promo sessions for Alicia Keys’ fourth full-length album The Element Of Freedom, which has been postponed to Docermber 15, 2009. The record label insists that Ms. Alicia Keys herself wants to add some tracks to the album and that is the reason for the push-back. But, something smells fishy as Alicia was doing the promo campaign for it already and this fall quarter is very busy. Maybe, she is trying to avoid other artists as every album she ever had debuted at #1 in the US charts. So, she probably is avoiding a slip from that glory.
Madonna’s “Celebration” does not make the number 1 spot in the UK Charts
8Cheryl Cole goes solo, Nadine Coyle goes solo
When the news broke out that Cheryl Cole is going to do a solo album it was both exciting and worrying a little bit. By all means, Cheryl is not my favorite. I think she has the worst voice out of all of them and she is the only one that sounds like she doesn’t like the Girls Aloud genre. She is more into hip hop and R&B and it shows from her dancing to her song choices. Plus, the only thing we have seen from her solo sphere is that utterly abhorrent collaboration with Will.I.Am.
Girls Aloud continue reign as pop princesses…
1
Girls Aloud barely held on to their top-10 singles (“sengles” according to Nadine) with “The Loving Kind” by landing on the #10 spot. It’s their 18th top-10 hit in the UK. Meanwhile, the Saturdays climb to #4 surprisingly. Anyway, the single was lackluster and they had many other choices. I think back in their head they thought that it’s be a sequel to “Call The Shots,” but it is far from it. I hope the next one is a wise choice.
