Monumental Brit-soul band Eternal where one of the greatest pop bands to grace this earth. The foursome where the Spice Girls before “Girl Power” was coined (Although technically a band by the name of Shampoo came up with “Girl Power” much to Geri Halliwell’s dismay). The band came onto the scene with great tracks as “Stay,” “Just A Step From Heaven” and “Don’t You Love Me?” There’s a Facebook fanpage to bring them back. Join it now. Premiere: Video: “I Look To You” by Whitney Houston
“Million Dollar Bill” was supposed to be the first single from I Look To You. We were surprised that this ballad came first, but it makes sense. People want the old Whitney back. This is the closest thing. She’s looking demure and preened, isn’t she?
Massive Attack are back!
The divine beings behind the trip-hop movement that cleaned off the 90s’ are back with anew track and an album. Massive Attack have teased their fans today with a leak of a new track called “Splitting The Atom,” which is quite succulent but to long (7 minutes plus). This is just a taste from their tentatively titled LP5, which is set to land sometime early 2010. Some sources say that it will be titled Weather Underground.
Amy Winehouse returns in top form
3Amy Winehouse is done with Blake and ready to take over again. She has recently made a public appearance with The Specials at the V Festival. She sang an old song of theirs from 1979 titled “You’re Wondering Now.” She looked sober and didn’t trip at all or hit a fan. We can’t wait for the new material from Winehouse and her father.
Janet Jackson is coming back soon with new album, movie
8Us Janet Jackson fans awoke today to a great surprise. The star’s often-stagnant site has gotten a complete revamp. Not only that, but there has been news that Ms. Jackson is going to release an album early 2010. That’s close, especially considering the fact that she has been hard at work doing the sequel to Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married and her brother untimely death. She must be hard at work following her split with Jermaine Dupri. We hope her reunion with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis will prove fruitful. Can’t wait!
Natalie Merchant to return soon
Seems like all the greats are gearing up for the imminent return of Lilith Fair. Not only are there rumors that Sarah McLachlan is hard at work trying to release her next album, but Natalie Merchant, one of our all time favorites, have officially announced that she is working full-time on her next studio album 8 years after her previous offering Motherland.
Lilith Fair to relaunch in 2010
3One of the greatest music festivals to ever grace this earth is about to make a come back 11 years after its last run. Lilith Fair, which was the first all-female music festival to tour North America from 1997 to 1999, is about to make a return according to a tweet by co-founder of Nettwerk Records and current CEO Terry McBride. Some tour dates have been set for London around the summer of 2010.
En Vogue have reunited
The funky divas of the 90s’ – En Vogue – are back together. This is the newest promo photo for their new venture. No more three-legged neosoul, or bitch-slap servings from Dawn Robinson. The foursome, as we have come to know them and love them, are back and even a Terry Ellis album can’t break them apart. They are doing some obscure festival dates to test their selves out and then pacing an album together. The still look sexual and healthy and weave-y. I can’t wait for their comeback. Now, we have to wait for For Real and Zhané (pronounced Ja-Nay).
Boyzone’s “Better” breaks ground…
3
Boyzone were my generation’s boy band. I grew up on the cusp between Take That and Boyzone. I still like both and listen to both. This is the second single from their greatest hits album, which was set to launch their comback. I think its a nice little ballad and Stephen Gately’s vocals are always in top form. I am glad they didn’t heterosexualize him for the this clip. I don’t think it would have went down well in the UK pop world had they done that. In any case, it’s a good song with a touching video, no matter how low-budget it is.
Whitney Houston’s return…
2
This has been circling the pop blogosphere this past day and I have a hard time believing that it is the actual cover for Whitney’s long-awaited comeback album Undefeated. But, please let it be! It’s fiercer than Sasha Fierce and more emancipated than MiMi. I think it’s fabulous, but I don’t think the record company will allow such a blatant display of skin for an artist that does very well in the adult contemporary genre. What do you think?
Girls Aloud’s new video
They are officially now the best looking band on earth.
Great song, good video, fabulous wigs, and a smooth comeback.
