The divine beings behind the trip-hop movement that cleaned off the 90s’ are back with anew track and an album. Massive Attack have teased their fans today with a leak of a new track called “Splitting The Atom,” which is quite succulent but to long (7 minutes plus). This is just a taste from their tentatively titled LP5, which is set to land sometime early 2010. Some sources say that it will be titled Weather Underground.

Cheryl Cole goes solo, Nadine Coyle goes solo

cherylcoleWhen the news broke out that Cheryl Cole is going to do a solo album it was both exciting and worrying a little bit. By all means, Cheryl is not my favorite. I think she has the worst voice out of all of them and she is the only one that sounds like she doesn’t like the Girls Aloud genre. She is more into hip hop and R&B and it shows from her dancing to her song choices. Plus, the only thing we have seen from her solo sphere is that utterly abhorrent collaboration with Will.I.Am.

Video: “Baby, I’m A Fool” by Melody Gardot

5

Melody Gardot has been on heavy rotation on my iPod for a couple of days now. I was first introduced to her when i read her compelling story and when I heard her music, I knew I was going to like her. Gardot was struck my a car while on her bicycle when she was only 19. the injury resulted in cognitive impairment. Her doctors suggested she take up music  in order to repair the damages in her cognitive thinking as it has been scientifically proven that it has healing abilities. The result is her moody debut album Worrisome Heart, which boasted a great eponymous single. Now, Gardot has released a second album titled My One And Only Thrill, which this track comes from. The effort is a well-rounded and robust offering of contemporary jazz. It’s good from start to end.

Ladyhawke to release remix EP

1

ladyhawkeparisremixes450Ladyhawke’s debut album was impressive sonically. It was an auditory journey that synced from start to finish, however, it was quiet low on single-material. That is why the best song on there is getting a rehashing. “Paris is Burning” is probably being re-introduced as a dance song to reach new audiences and radio stations. It was good to begin with, I wouldn’t touch it.

Sanjaya’s album cover is an atrocity…

This is the official cover to Sanjaya’s Dancing To The Music In My Head EP. What a horrible little cover! The background, the hair brush back action, the typeface.  It’s so bad, it’s good. I don’t know what career he is veering towards, but this will only be OK in the tween demographic. Just OK. Miley Cyrus would barf if she saw that during her Hannah Montana-ness. The typeface!

2009 bound to be the year of Little Boots

littlebootsBring on the pop, bring on the synth. Little Boots is being launched. The first single is now free on iTunes UK and Victoria Hesketh seems well on her war of being this year’s Robyn. Plus, she is named after Caligula, which means Little Boots in Latin. No album title yet, but an EP is in circulation.

M.I.A. releases EP after success of “Paper Planes”

miaboyzhmvfmepcover

M.I.A. was just talking retirement when her single “Paper Planes” made it big because of some rap sample in the US and now she is back in the game. This time releasing an EP titled How Many Votes Fix Mix to remind people of an older hit (“Boyz” – this time remixed to feature heavy-weight Jay-Z) and introduce more material (“Far Far” and “Shells”). Right now, anything from M.I.A. is worthy of multiple spins. Talks of a third album are surfacing now.

Tina Dico silently returns…

51fsurjitvl_ss500_Had I not done some research on one my favorite up and coming artists, I wouldn’t have known that she released the 3-disc album titled A Beginning, A Detour, An Open Ending. So, I went directly to Amazon.co.uk and ordered it. I can’t wait! If anyone has a track or two tell me. Maybe I can post one here.
