Video Premiere: “Professional Loving” by Emika

1

There’s a new minimalist movement coming and it will be fronted by Emika and James Blake. This is why less is more when it comes to music. Taking an electronic sound and stripping it sound to its minimal bareness is essential in evoking a moody melody. Deep ha? Just listen.

First Listen: “Love What Happened Here” by James Blake

1

We stumbled upon this track on Twitter and we fell in love with it. In true James Blake fashion, simplicity is key. Beautiful blips and blops all around and a great vocal background. This is not on the debut album, but it should be on his next. If anyone finds a version without the radio clutter on it, send it our way. Click below to listen to it.

Bjork says art and science have to unite in the 21st century!

2

The ever-so-lovely Bjork has spoken for the merger of the beautiful and logical. In an interview with the Guardian, the Icelandic damsel said: “Well, seems like science and art were pretty much the same thing for thousands of years until the industrial revolution and the enlightenment separated them. I feel the 21st century is going to be the one where not only they can unite again but they have to …”

Sexy Track: “Night Air” by Jamie Woon

Lesser-hyped newcomer, artist Jamie Woon, is not up to make a bold statement for his debut, but one that is placid, yet with an impact. This track is reminiscent of times in mood music when the ethereal had meaning and was wanted. It feels like a beautiful marriage between Radiohead’s “Creep” and Madonna’s “To Have Not To Hold.” Dim yet layers with many delicious elements that will keep you coming back for more. Moreover, the vocals are on point all along. Click here to listen to it.

Sexy Track: “Limit To Your Love” by James Blake

2

James Blake’s first single from his debut album “Limit To Your Love” had him acclaimed as a pioneer of dub. However, this track showcases more than just that. This song is not only progressive in arrangement, but also oozes emotion-invoking minimalism. It sounds like a ballad from the future. It’s as if James Blake sat down and took heavy notes from Bjork’s “Hyperballad” and stripped its essentials back to the root of the feelings. This song is a lovely and unexpected tidbit of the future that closes off 2010 very nicely.
