Video Premiere: “Sugar Mama” by Keren Ann

1

The dark treatment of the “My Name Is Trouble” is countered with this all-white video for the second single from Keren Ann’s album 101. “Sugar Mama” is one of the stronger tracks on the disc. Although we would have opted for “All The Beautiful Girls,” we are keeping our hopes high for a third single release.

Keren Ann has recently wowed us with her single “My Name Is Trouble,” but there are more gems from her album 101. “All The Beautiful Girls” is an exquisite chill track that simmers down every grudge on earth. It saunters in as a progressive folk number and then incorporates jazz elements that make this track a great amalgamation of all things serene. However, the melody might be on the placid side, but the lyrics pack the punches ranging from vengeful to nostalgic until she gets over it. This is a lovely little ditty the will make your late night more pleasant with a glass of Cabernet Merlot.

Keren Ann did it again. She successfully merged pop mentality with lullaby-making. This song is a fresh spring morning with a love story behind it. It infuses simple yearning lyrics with a wandering melody that flutters throughout her lazy vocals. It’s not a stretch from what she does, but does introduce a new sound to her oeuvre. Taken from her new album 101, this is probably one of the best tracks of the year.  The video is not too bad, either.

This almost passed us by with us knowing of its existence. This little number is a beautiful ditty from the same person who brought us the clap-tastic “Lay Your Head Down.” It is the lead single from her album 101 and is highly recomended by the Loft. Go get it!
