Legendary: “The Beast In Me” by Bonnie Pointer

Some 80′s classic beats for you today. During a time when disco was dying hard a few people. like Bonnie Pointer, tried to revive it ti no avail. That is why many people nowadays are most nostalgic about an era that didn’t get what it deserved. Still, this is a lesser hit from the early 80s’ meander from disco to synth.

Lana Del Rey performs “Born To Die” live by the poolside of Chateau Marmont

1

Whatever she is doing, she is tapping on the right spot. What the world now needs is not an overproduced artist, but a stripped-down young-in with a great voice and 21st century mysticism that lacks in today’s popstar. Also, it helps if you look atrociously hot.

1

Many thought that the Kings Of Convenience promotional sect for their album Declaration Of Dependence is way over. However, they surprised us with a new video from the album for “Me In You,” which is an imposing ditty from the effort. It’s a cute surprise and if we had our way every song on that album would get the video treatment.  Continue reading

Legendary: “The Kiss” by Judee Sill

1

Judee Sill is one of the lesser-known singers-songwriters of the 1970s’. She is a great artists who didn’t release enough material and is often overlooked in the history of female singers/songwriters. Recorded in London on February of 1973 for the “Old Grey Whistle Test” TV program on the BBC. There are other clips and songs from this session and the one before it, but sadly this is the only one that has been released. Her songwriting skills and her sense of perfection were a wonder to behold. She was also a wild child and very much a rebel in her own way. She was 28 years old at the time of this recording. A very rare talent.

Introducing… Lana Del Rey

3

Lana Del Rey is the newest kid on the block. Although she looks like a Hollywood starlet, she sings in a sullen, dark voice songs of sorrow. Her tracks “Video Games” and “Blue Jeans” are taking off like no other. It is somewhat surprising as the genre is a bluesy jazz that doesn’t frequent the charts much. Her real name is real name Lizzy Grant – a singer/songwriter from Lake Placid, New York, United States. She released her debut album, Lana Del Rey in 2010 and issued the “Video Games” single in October 2011. She is known for being an internet sensations. Her powerful lyrics, singing ability and aesthetic looks got her places. Let’s hope the album hold a lot more hits, but if not, she could be an actress.

1

This is one of the loveliest spoken word tracks from Ani DiFranco’s career, from the epic Little Plastic Castle, one of the albums that shaped our musical tastes and our personal life. This is just pure history in our books and everyone that hasn’t familiarized themselves with this, should.

No it’s not named after the retriever, but it will leave you howling until its release date. Rachael Yamagata wants to offer us more of her moody balladeering on this one, but this time with a more mainstream twist. This pledge-backed album is set to make Rachael Yamagata a household name. Chesapeake is the record Yamagata always wanted to make. “In a funny way I think this might be a more commercial record for me in terms of reaching a broader audience because there was no attempt or requirement to be anything but what we felt like doing in the room,” she told Rolling Stone magazine.

Sexy Track: “Southern Freeez” by Beverley Knight

1

Another classic covered by Beverley Knight on her tribute album to the genre of  British soul, Soul UK. This time it’s a big funk disco-tinted classic from a little-known band Freeez. This track needed revival and thanks to Bev for bringing it to the forefront of pop music. It’s a swinging gem with great vocals laden by one of the best singers of our time!

Missy Higgins finished recording third album!

2

The summer of last year when we met Missy Higgins in Los Angeles she told us that she is taking it slow and not pressuring herself into making another album anytime soon. We expressed our love for everything she has does and told her that we even listen to her B-sides. She replied that she might go back into the studio sometime in the near future. Well, it turns out that she did because she just tweeted that she has officially finished recording the new album, which will be her third. This is exciting news as Autumn is coming up and there is no better time to listen to some strums from Missy Higgins than during Fall.

Video Premiere: “I Wanna Go” by Britney Spears

2

3rd single from Femme Fatale is out. Britney Spears needs to step off the “woe-is-me” pedestal and concentrate on developing strong and unforgettable videos. This is just another one of her celebrity-is-an-illusion videos. And those random questions are taken straight from the movie In And Out.

Video Preview: “In The Dark” by Dev

1

This is the make-or-break single from Dev’s debut album which she called The Night The Sun Came Up. If there’s any pop justice out there this would be a hit this summer, it has all the components and people remember her vocals from last summer’s hit “Like A G6.”

First Listen: “Head First” by Nikka Costa

1

Nikka Costa is one of the artists that has never gotten what she deserved. Her blend of soul and pop is incomparable and she is one of the only voices out there giving soul props in this day and age. At any rate, we weren’t too happy with her German-only single “Ching Ching Ching,” but this new song “Head First” is exactly what the doctors ordered. We are glad that this sound still carries on on her album Pro*Whoa!

Introducing… Rochelle Jordan

Rochelle started singing as child trying to emulate what she saw from 90′s RNB acts such as Aaliyah, Kelis, Nicole Wray, TLC, 702 and Missy Elliot. Pursing this dream as a teenager landed her a by chance meeting with Toronto Producer “D10″ who happens to be the same producer that produced Drake out of Toronto. D10 offered Rochelle the chance to sing backup for another rising star at the time Keisha Chante. That experience made Rochelle realize that she could really do the same thing and started making the transition from backup to lead.
