LeToya Luckett surprised everyone when her debut album LeToya debuted at the top spot in the US charts. So much so that the wait for the second album intensified due to the speculation that she might ring up another number one, a feat that Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams and Solange Knowles wish for. So, her second album Lady Love has come out this week and the numbers are looking grim.
For an R&B starlett, this is quite stunning. The net around her and the typface(s) and the colors. It all works. It’s even better than her debut album which was a diva-spectacle. I wonder if she’ll get to the top spot again. What with Beyonce, Michelle, Solange and Kelly all having offerings this year.
Even if this is yet another blame-the-woman-for-the-man’s-infidelity ditties, we likes it. She is bringing the fierceness on big-time. The dance routine is sex and the beat is working. The album, Lady Love, has been pushed back, probably because the lead single and equally-scrumptious song “Not Anymore” didn’t build-up enough interest. So, we get two singles before the release. Last time she managed to get to #1 on the Billboard Album charts, which means she has a lot of buyers.
Great song that I couldn’t cram in the last compilation because it was too sombre in comparison. The little girl is all kinds of adorable. This is dedicated to my friend Suallu.
One of the three that Beyonce kicked out from Destiny’s Child is back and kicking around. “Not Anymore” is LeToya Luckett’s first second off of her second album. Her first album did well in the states and this looks like a continuation of that streak, but nothing is new here, really. the video’s nicer than I expected, though.
As much as I love R&B, I feel like sometimes it gets all muddled up in the hype and plateaus for a bit (jackswing? crunk?). It is best when soul and sultry. Shontelle’s horribly named debut Shontelligence seems like a promising reformist record with a hint of reggae. Now let’s hope all of these are: Ciara’s Fantasy Ride (highly unlikely), Lady Love by LeToya (maybe), Pulse by Toni Braxton (she “doesn’t have a single hip hop bone” in her body), Love, Tweet by Tweet (if she dumps Missy), Monica’s Still Standing (again, if she dumps Missy Elliott) and Whitney’s tentatively titled Undefeated.
