Introducing… Emily King

2

Born in New York City in 1985, King grew up in a small apartment on the lower east side. Her parents were a singing duo who performed and traveled regularly, bringing her and her older brother along with them. At age 16, King left school to pursue her music career. She began playing shows in restaurants and venues around New York City including CBGB’S and The Bitter end.

Wynter Gordon performs “Buy Me Live” acoustic and live!

2

Wynter Gordon is a certified pop star. If there is any pop justice she should be up there by the end of the year. This is a great dance song, but it’s very nice too with just guitar and vocals.  Continue reading

First Listen: “Sophia” by Laura Marling

Mariah Carey appears on HSN post-birth!

1

As much as we love us some Mariah, we probably would not buy anything from her collection. It’s kind of gaudy. But, we are happy to see her out and back. Lambs all the way! Click here for more.

Video Premiere: “I Took A Little Something” by Florrie

1

Florrie is not about to give up with this new EP that insinuates everything about drug consumption, but doesn’t quite touch that line. Experimenting is probably her last attempt at some hipster-love. This is another refreshing summer track from the disc.

Video Premiere: “Sugar Mama” by Keren Ann

1

The dark treatment of the “My Name Is Trouble” is countered with this all-white video for the second single from Keren Ann’s album 101. “Sugar Mama” is one of the stronger tracks on the disc. Although we would have opted for “All The Beautiful Girls,” we are keeping our hopes high for a third single release.

Sexy Track: “White Nights” by Oh Land

1

Songs with catchy choruses are a few and far in-between these days. In this case, Oh Land mastered the chorus and perhaps got a PhD in it along the way. This track is a fresh and up summer song that will leave you humming for days on end with its quirky lyrics and buoyant nature. You can hum to the drum of Oh Land’s “White Nights,” but its definitely not hum-drum.

Mariah Carey to release an album in 2011

2

This could be one of the greatest news pieces of the year. Mariah Carey is said to have already started working on her new album following her delivery of twins – Monroe and Moroccan. The album is said to be reflective of the journey she has been through and, according to her husband Nick Cannon, it’s set to drop sometime this year. Good news.

Lofty Prediction: SiA Furler to work heavily on Christina Aguilera’s new album!

2

First of all, let’s all attest to the fact that the best track on Christina Aguilera’s flop of an album Bionic was the SiA Furler-penned track “You Lost Me.” Not only that, but the section she worked on was the only listenable part of the disc. Now, judging from what Xtina went through, you’d think she’d sign up and collaborate with a bunch of new artists, perhaps ones ruling the charts right now. Well, maybe it will be true, but guessing by how chummy the two have become, it seems like you haven’t seen an artistic end to their friendship which now has grown so big that Christina Aguilera assigned SiA a place on her reality show The Voice. Also, SiA is one of the greatest artists of our time so why not?

Christina Aguilera allegedly attacked on the set of The Voice!

1

News just in. Allegedly, Christina Aguilera got into a tussle in recent filming of her reality show The Voice.  Not sure yet on what happened, if it was a beat down or a heckle, but some blogs are saying that she had to call security. We are not surprised that someone attacked her because she has been a rude little diva as of late. It would be nice if a nice little harmless slap was or pulling of hair was pulled, and we hope SiA was in the clear!

Mariah Carey calls twins “Moroccan” and “Monroe”

3

We really don’t do much gossip, but it is very interesting that Mariah Carey, who recently had twins (one girl, one boy) called her son Moroccan. We knew she had a Moroccan room in her lavish NYC apartment, but we didn’t know she loved us Arabs that much! And, of coure Monroe is named after Marilyn, whom she idolizes. Cute names.

Ani DiFranco has finalized her 17th album!

1

Other than a reverb not working on track #9, allegedly, all is done and good on Ani DiFranco‘s 17th full-length album. There is word that it will see the light of day this June, but with Ani DiFranco’s hectic touring schedule, everything could change. There are many new tracks floating around of Ani’s that still need a home in form of an album. They are: “Zoo,” “Promiscuity, “J,” “Life Boat,”Splinter,” “Hearse,” “Albacore Tuna,” “Amendment,” “See,” “Gloaming,” “If You’re Not,” “Wow,” “Smart,” “Mariachi,” “A New Bible” and “Unworry.” Not to forget the cover of “Which Side Are You On?” and the cool but timely “November 4th.” Let’s hope all get on the release. All songs titles are tentative and just our rendering from the tracks we’ve heard.

Beyonce’s new album is coming out in June!

2

As we assumed previously in our “Lofty Prediction” post, Beyonce is in fact releasing her new album in this summer. More specifically, June! Apparently, the former Destiny’s Child has just previewed some of the songs to music execs in New York City. The luckly listeners were allegedly “amazed” at what they heard. We know she worked with Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins, Ne-Yo, Diplo, Sia, The Script and Odd Future’s Frank Ocean, but we always thought Beyonce needs a magical video to push her music. We’ll wait and see.

Sexy Track: “My Name Is Trouble” by Keren Ann

1

Keren Ann did it again. She successfully merged pop mentality with lullaby-making. This song is a fresh spring morning with a love story behind it. It infuses simple yearning lyrics with a wandering melody that flutters throughout her lazy vocals. It’s not a stretch from what she does, but does introduce a new sound to her oeuvre. Taken from her new album 101, this is probably one of the best tracks of the year.  The video is not too bad, either.
