Bring Janet Jackson to Dubai!

Some good folks over here are starting a campaign to bring Miss Janet Jackson to Dubai. If this happens, it will be the first time Janet Jackson comes to Dubai. Considering that her new boyfriend is from Qatar and she hasn’t treaded here, it’s not a far stretch as it is listed in the drop-down menu of her site. It would be great if she did come here as this could be her last tour and, as you might know, we are huge Damita Jo fans since our childhoods and would love to see her and review her. We have seen her live before on the Velvet Rope Tour and it was just stellar.

To Debut: The Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art

Construction in the Qatari capital, Doha

We are looking forward to the debut of The Arab Museum of Modern Art, Mathaf, on December 30th, 2010 in Doha, Qatar. The press preview will be on Tuesday December 14, 2010. The inaugural exhibition to be featured is Sajjil: A Century of Modern Art curated by Dr. Nada Shabout. Sajjil meaning ‘to record’. This museum is worthy to note in the region as it is an institution that is focused on growing the region’s appreciation of the arts in a manner that advocates local talent rather than the franchising and branding of museums. We also like this museum as the Chief Curator, Wassan Al-Khudhairi, posted no restrictions on art work that includes nudity or political scenes. The institution aims to be a location for people to visit and start a dialog with others and thus challenging the people’s though process.

Kuwait: Best place in the Middle East for press freedom

Speaking technically, Kuwait is currently #1 in the Middle East and the Arab World when it comes to freedom of the press. As much as we’d like to boast and rant on this accomplishment, it was not really due to Kuwait’s adamant effort on rectifying some of its freedom faults, but is a result of other countries faltering. This comes on because of Israel’s atrocious behavior in handling media rights during the horrific Gaza Strip massacre. Yes, Kuwait rose to #60 and became the Middle East’s champion merely because Israel fell hard. Inching closer is Lebanon right after at #61 (rising). Then the UAE at #86 and Qatar at #94, both of which steeply down. Still, is #60 good enough? It’s 60 out 175, which gives Kuwait a grade of 65.8/100. That’s a D!

Swine flu allegedly reaches Bahrain

map_bahrainNews is coming in that there is a suspected case of swine flu in Bahrain. The suspected person is an American traveling from Miami and stopped over in Frankfurt, Germany. The “heat detectors” spotted the man with a 40 C° fever. The man has been quarantined in good old Gulf fashion until further notice and tests. They need to send a sample to WHO in Cairo.
