Marilyn Manson dropped by record label!

One of the better ones in rock music (the heavier set) has been dropped. Interscope Records has let Marilyn Manson (the man and the band) go citing poor record sales. While this is obviously an advent of the MP3 generation, it might not be bad for artists like him/them because it will allow them to explore independent means for releasing and distributing their music, which, in turn, will allow them more creative freedom. We see it as a good thing for the man that never escapes controversy and, really, shouldn’t as he is one of the few music stars standing up for something these days.

Premiere: Video: “Foolish Little Girl” by Dionne Bromfield

2

Amy Winehouse’s protege and goddaughter Dionne Bromfield has released her first official video and it doesn’t stray to far away from wino’s beats. The little song sounds like a b-side from Back To Black, but with a youthful twist. She is the fist act singed onto Amy Winehouse’s Lioness Records.

Back when we introduced him we thought he was a French pop star with a some talent. Now, Sliimy broke that mold and is the first artist officially signed to Perezcious Records. If Perez is releasing his album Paint Your Face in the US, it won’t work out. It’s just not cut out for that market. It might fair well in some niche markets like the hispter demographic and the gay community, but that’s about it. He doesn’t have enough good songs to carry it (Check this and this).

Video: “I Could Break Your Heart Any Day Of The Week” by Mandy Moore

I must say this song is on heavy rotation here at the loft. It’s a great compromise between Mandy’s organic sound from Wild Hope and her more commercial ditties. If they video is low-budget, give her a break – she’s gone rouge for a former bubblegum popster like her. Amanda Leigh, her upcoming album, is said to have an impressive line of producers.

From Yahoo Music:

“R&B singer Solange Knowles has been dropped from her record label following poor sales of her latest album Sol-Angel And The Hadley St. Dreams, according to a new report.

Beyonce’s younger sister, who is also managed by father Mathew Knowles and his MusicWorld Entertainment company, was allegedly released from Geffen/Interscope Records after bosses opted not to renew her contract.

Beverley Knight goes independent

No word on whether she left at her own accord or if she was dropped. Something tells me it’s the latter, because Music City Soul didn’t do so well, even if it was a scrumptious album. In any case, she is back with her very own Hurricane Records. She’s working with the Rurals, Guy Chambers and the one and only Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, so there should be some gems on there. If you sign up on her website you can get a demo of a song titled “Money Back.” Whatever she has to offer, I am sure it is going to be up to par. From the sound of it “Money Back” is a return to a more contemporary beat like Who I Am but with a grown-up laid-back soul saunter.

Coldplay regret giving their “best song ever” to Natalie Imbruglia

Chris Martin has claimed that he is regretting the fact that he gave Natalie Imbruglia the “best Coldplay song ever.” The song is titled “Scars” and it is supposed to be the first single off of Natalie imbruglia’s Come To Life. He said he did so because they are off-cycle. I don’t know what he exactly means by that, but if it means that they aren’t about to release anything soon then that is both a relief and stupid reasoning. Firstly because Viva La Vida is a muddle of rock sap and they have been going downhill since their debut, which is my opinion and it is bound to rattle some wannabe hipsters out there. Secondly, because he could have kept it. He is sounding like Bono these days.

The truth is, Natalie Imbruglia would do a better job with it. Her tracks are always preened to perfection without over-instrumentation and clutter. The newfound direction on her own label will present her music in a different light. The album will have a more electronic sound and is slated for a May release on her very own Malabar Records.
